Peedy Chavis, a 19-year-old from Georgia, stunned on the season 21 premiere of NBC’s The Voice with a cover of an Elvis Presley classic.
Infatuated with Elvis at a young age, Chavis spent his time listening to Elvis records and eventually fell in love with other classic singers like Dean Martin. He even joked that he was an “old soul” due to his love for classic rock ‘n’ roll.
His Blind Audition performance of “Heartbreak Hotel” earned a two-chair turn from coaches John Legend and Blake Shelton.
“That had me fired the hell up,” Shelton gushed. “He literally does the Elvis thing, the hair and everything.”
Peedy shared his love for Elvis, to which Shelton replied, ““I also appreciate Elvis, and I’d be damn proud to be your coach, I don’t know why John turned around.”
Legend attempted to shake off Shelton’s diss.
“Peedy that was so much fun! I loved it and was dancing in my seat,” Legend told him and later added, “I would love to work with you and bring this classic music to a new generation.”
In the end, Peedy chose to join Team Blake.
“He’s got so much confidence on stage, this is huge for The Voice,” Shelton gushed over his first teammate.
The Voice returned on Monday with the first episode of Season 21. The premiere continues on Tuesday, September 21 at 8/7c on NBC.
