It’s a full-circle moment for Blake Shelton and Dan + Shay!
The award-winning country duo will join Shelton on the upcoming 20th season of NBC’s The Voice as Battle Advisors. The move comes seven years after Dan + Shay embarked on their very first tour with the country superstar.
Shelton and Dan + Shay appeared on Access to chat about working together on the upcoming season and Shelton couldn’t help but gush over the opportunity to have Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney advise his team.
“The battle rounds are literally, you know, two artists coming together and making music, singing basically a duet. We call it a battle but it’s a duet. And these two are obviously, I have to talk about their career, it’s completely exploded,” Shelton said. “But the way they come together and vocalize together and make music, I thought that would be a great mentor to have these two because so many times, I’m sitting here in a situation in these battle rehearsals and one of the artists will ask me a question about harmony and I don’t know crap about harmony.”
“I would be like, ‘oh yeah I will check on that for you’ and I never do because I don’t know anything about harmony,” Shelton went on to explain. “Finally, this season, I’ve got Dan + Shay here and they kill it and they’re natural at it and honestly, it’s already come into play a couple of times and it’s helpful to have them here.”
The upcoming season of The Voice will feature Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas and John Legend as coaches, while Carson Daly is set to return as the host.
It was also revealed that Darren Criss will join the show as the advisor for Team Nick, Brandy as the advisor for Team Legend, and Luis Fonsi will mentor Team Kelly.
This year not only marks the 20th season of the hit singing competition but also the 10-year anniversary of the show.
Fans can tune in to The Voice on Monday, March 1 on NBC.
