No stranger to the top of the charts, Carrie Underwood returns to the No.1 spot on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart this week with “Southbound.”

The upbeat track is the latest single from Underwood’s sixth studio album, Cry Pretty.

The superstar co-wrote the song alongside David Garcia and Josh Miller. Underwood says it was written a bit “late in the game” when a lot of the Cry Pretty album was already finished.

“At the end of making an album you start thinking what are we lacking? What do we need? So, we get in a room and I had the title. I was like this sounds like fun, I think. We can do something fun with this,” Underwood explains. ”It surprisingly took us a while to write it but by the end of it, it was like, ‘Well, this is a lot of fun.’ I feel like everybody kind of gravitated towards that one when we were all done with it.”

Underwood is currently in the midst of her massive Cry Pretty Tour 360, which wraps October 31. She’ll then head back to Nashville to prepare for her 12th year hosting the CMA Awards. This time around, the current CMA Entertainer of the Year nominee will share hosting duties with special guest hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton.
