Carrie Underwood dropped the music video for her newest single, “Southbound,” and it’s giving fans all the summer vibes.
Filmed on Cinco de Mayo, the clip shows Underwood enjoying some quality time lakeside with husband Mike Fisher and the couple’s adorable four-year-old son, Isaiah Michael Fisher. Underwood’s friends and current tour openers, Runaway June and Maddie & Tae, also appear in select scenes of the recently released music video.
The superstar’s youngest child, Jacob Bryan Fisher, doesn’t make a cameo in the video, but that’s probably because the visual display is all about turning up the party, and he’s not quite ready for that just yet!
In the clip, Underwood & Co. attend a backyard bash where they are seen taking in the sunshine, jumping in the water and playing multiple rounds of corn hole, all while catching that “Tennessee honey kinda buzz.” Footage from Underwood’s Cry Pretty Tour 360 is also worked into the mix.
Underwood performed “Southbound” at the 2019 CMT Music Awards three days before the accompanying video came out. On that night, she continued her reign as the most decorated artist in the history of the fan-voted ceremony, securing trophies for Video of the Year for “Cry Pretty” and Female Video of the Year for “Love Wins.”
On Friday, June 7, Underwood headlined the nightly CMA Fest concert at Nissan Stadium. Along with performing “Southbound,” she was joined by a surprise guest – rock icon Joan Jett. The pair teamed up for renditions of Jett’s “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” “Bad Reputation,” “Fresh Start” and “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll.” They also covered Tommy James and The Shondells’ “Crimson and Clover.”
“Southbound” is the third single from Underwood’s sixth studio album, Cry Pretty. The country powerhouse has been performing the smash as an opening number while on her Cry Pretty Tour 360, which runs through the fall.
