Carter Faith, Laci Kaye Booth & Baby Nova Bring ‘Pearl Handled Pistol’ to Life in Cinematic New Music Video

Carter Faith, Laci Kaye Booth and Baby Nova are stepping into a new era with the just released music video for their collaboration, “Pearl Handled Pistol.” Directed by Lily Nelson and Chase Denton, the cinematic visual transforms the track into a suspenseful revenge story, perfectly capturing the song’s fearless spirit.

The video opens with the trio laying low in a roadside motel room, smoking cigarettes and casually flipping through a newspaper featuring the headline of a man’s murder. Rather than appearing shaken by the news, the three women remain remarkably calm, and continue lounging by the motel pool and hanging out in the room as if nothing out of the ordinary has happened.

As the story unfolds, clues begin to suggest they know more about the murder than they’re letting on. A pearl-handled pistol, the victim’s wallet with his ID, and a blood-soaked towel all point to their possible involvement. The biggest reveal comes when they crack open the trunk of a vintage red Mustang and stare down at what appears to be the victim’s body inside.

The three artists then make their way to a secluded spot, where they take turns digging a grave before marking it with nothing more than a simple cross topped with a Stetson, leaving viewers to draw their own conclusions about what really happened.

The video’s storyline mirrors the haunting warning woven throughout “Pearl Handled Pistol.” Written by Faith, Booth, Jessie Jo Dillon and Chris Tompkins, the devious track finds the three women detailing the consequences that come with underestimating a strong female, a heart pounding story reminiscent of The Chicks’ 1999 hit, “Goodbye Earl.”

Right off the bat, they make it clear, “Well my love comes with a warnin’/ And that’s a label you oughta read/ I’m a pear-handled pistol/ Don’t you fool around with me.”

That same fierce independence and unwavering confidence appears on the chorus, as Faith’s delicate vocals, Baby Nova’s bold, textured tone and Booth’s effortless notes combine to elevate the song’s cinematic storytelling.

“I don’t play I shoot straight/ John Wayne don’t need a chaser Texas ranger/ Honey, leather and lace/ Wrapped ’round this waist/ Throw another in the chamber/ If you like a little danger/ Well, cue the Morricone whistle/ Like smoke comin’ off twin fiddles/ I’m a pearl-handled pistol,” they sing.

Carter Faith explains it was Jessie Jo Dillon’s idea to write a song with this title and it didn’t take much convincing for her and Laci Kaye Booth to jump on that opportunity.  

“When I think of badass women in country music, Laci is always at the top of my list,” said Faith. “I’m such a sucker for a female collab, and adding Baby Nova felt so perfect. There’s something so special, in my opinion, about a woman singing about herself in such an authentic and uncensored way. I truly love this song, but I couldn’t have made it what it is without the two of them.”

Booth remembers hearing the title alone and feeling as if the story needed to enter around a woman “standing in her own skin, drenched in confidence.”

“Those kind of songs have always given me life through second hand confidence. When thinking about other women in music whose own authenticity and sexiness also inspires and empowers me, Baby Nova was the perfect voice and artistic presence to bring on,” she added.

Meanwhile, Nova admitted she was “honored” to be asked to join this epic, female-led collaboration as Faith and Booth are two of her “favorite artists.”

“…getting to be part of this was a dream come true for me. Carter was one of the earliest champions of my own project, I’m talking a week or two after I dropped my very first song, so having this full-circle moment with her on Cherry Valley Forever is beyond special to me. I adore this song, but even more than that, Carter and Laci are two fiercely talented women I’m really proud to be coming up in this industry alongside. I just feel a lot of gratitude to be part of it.”

“Pearl Handled Pistol” appears on Faith’s deluxe album Cherry Valley Forever, which serves as the deluxe edition of her debut album, Cherry Valley. Out now via Gatsby Records/MCA, the expanded project adds five new tracks to the original record, including “Nothin’ Better To Do” with Wyatt Flores.
