Chris Young unveils his romantic new song, “What She Sees In Me,” as the final preview of his ninth studio album, Young Love & Saturday Nights, before it officially drops on March 22.
Much like the rest of his full-length project, Young was very hands-on with his latest release as he produced the track and served as a co-writer alongside Christian Davis Stalnecker, Kyle Fishman, Ray Fulcher and Josh Hoge.
The Meaning Behind “What She Sees In Me”
A run of tender, acoustic guitar plucks and a soothing piano melody sets the tone for the opening verse of the track. Young soon joins in with his baritone vocals to begin telling the picture-perfect story of a couple who started out as just friends. The female character at hand may not have noticed the spark between them at first, but from Young’s perspective, there was always something there. He felt it when he saw her smile from across the room, and even when she came to him to vent about another guy who upset her.
“Started out as childhood friends/ Started looking out for her, even back then/ She was always looking to get into something/ Causing a big deal and calling it nothing,” Young sings. “Life of the party with a smile that lit up the room/ She used to call me, talk a while about some other dude/ Treating her wrong, I was always the shoulder she’d cry on.”
While transitioning into the chorus, the relationship between the two people appears to evolve into something more. Young opens up about the budding love story through his eyes by illustrating all the reasons why he loves his “perfect” other half and that he always knew she was the one for him. The country star can easily picture their future and growing old together, but at the same time, he finds himself questioning “What She Sees In Me.”
“Now, I get to see how pretty she is when she wakes up/ I get to see how perfect she is with no makeup/ I can see us twenty years from now on an old porch swing/ I still see her in every dream/ I can see her faith when it gets tough/ I can see her grace when I mess up/ I can see how far she is out of my league/ But I still can’t see what she sees in me/ What she sees in me,” he delivers on the chorus.
The Perfect Wedding Dance Song
Between the delicate rhythms and romantic narrative, “What She Sees In Me” is poised to become a go-to choice for many couples’ first dance at their wedding. The song’s destiny is further proven in the official music video that also dropped on Friday (Mar. 8).
Directed by Running Bear’s Alexia Stone and Stephen Kinigopoulos, the video places Young as the main character and puts his love story on display in a set of black and white footage. In between the clips documenting the couple as they build their life together, Young sits at a grand piano in a white button-down dress shirt and delivers the touching tune.
Young Readies His Largest Project To Date
“What She Sees In Me” marks the sixth advance release from Young’s next project, following “Double Down,” “Right Now,” “All Dogs Go To Heaven,” “Looking For You,” and the title track which also serves as Young’s current single
With 18 tracks, this collection marks his largest project to date. The Murfreesboro, TN native serves as a writer on 15 of 18 songs and also took on the role of sole producer on three of the songs. Plus, he shares co-producer credits with longtime creative partners, Chris DeStefano and Corey Crowder on the remainder of the tracks.
The complete full-length collection will be put on display in just a few weeks when the album finally drops on March 22 via Sony Music Nashville. Pre-save Young Love & Saturday Nights HERE.
