After releasing the breathtaking “Talking to God” earlier this year, Chrissy Metz is giving fans another taste of what’s to come on her forthcoming debut album with “Actress.”
Out now, the piano-driven ballad finds the This Is Us star crooning over a breakup. Throughout the song, which Metz co-wrote with Nicolette Hayford, Matt McGinn and Nathan Spicer, she details how she uses her acting chops to hide the pain she’s endured.
“Well thank God I’m an actress / he don’t know what’s on my mind / and even though I’m laughing, I ain’t having a good time,” she sings . “And that’s the real him happy / but for me it’s just a lie / He won’t ever know / ever know, tonight / Thank God I’m an actress.”

“I love a good break up song and I love the play on words,” the award-winning actress shares in a statement. “Obviously, I’m an actress, but we have all had those experiences where we put on that brave face when our heart is just broken, we act as if nothing is wrong even though you’re dying inside- wanting something so desperately you don’t have anymore.”
Metz has been spending a lot of time in Nashville writing and recording for her EMI Nashville debut album. She recently opened up to People about the opportunity to release music.
“It’s really exciting to be doing music that, you know, I’ve wanted to do forever,” she said. “Literally, since I could remember or really even mutter a song.”
“Music was my first love,” she continued. “It’s very cathartic — music, as we all know, is very healing. And it was always something I wanted to pursue.”
