Cody Johnson has unveiled his brand-new duet with Carrie Underwood, “I’m Gonna Love You,” along with its music video, offering fans the first glimpse of new music from his upcoming deluxe album.

Set amongst the beautiful terrain of Wells, Nevada and Nashville, Tennessee, the Dustin Haney-directed video finds the country stars offering a profession of love through the tender narrative as wild horses run by and the sun slowly rises. The mountainside scenery certainly elevates the powerful nature of the lyrics and puts unconditional love and devotion on full display.

Written by Travis Denning, Chris Stevens and Kelly Archer, “I’m Gonna Love You” centers around a couple who promises to always be there for their partner throughout every step they take in life together. It’s a timeless country love song that is sure to resonate deeply with fans, especially with the effortless storytelling abilities of Johnson and Underwood.

For the majority of the clips, the pair are separated to tell their sides of the love story in opposing climates. They take turns delivering the first set of verses before diving deeper into the song’s emotional depth together, blending their distinct musical stylings to create the perfect balance between tenderness and strength.

“Stars are gonna light up the midnight sky/ The sun’s gonna burn on the fourth of July/ Tides are gonna turn with the pull of the moon/ And I’m gonna love you,” Johnson sings, followed by Underwood’s profession of the heart, “Birds are flyin’ south when the winter comes/ Snow’s gonna fall, and rivers gonna run/ April’s gonna rain, and flowers gonna bloom/ And I’m gonna love you.”

Johnson eventually joins the songstresses to carry out the chorus as snowflakes drift around them in a dream-like state.

“So good that it almost hurts/ Steady and true as a Bible verse/ My heart skips just thinkin’ of you/ The warmth in bed, oh, baby, we can’t lose,” they continue in the chorus.

The Texas native first started teasing a duet with the American Idol alum back in March of 2023. It was initially expected to appear on his latest 12-track project, Leather, however, when the track list was announced, it revealed that their collaboration did not make the cut. The song was put on hold for a while, but the time is finally right for them to share it with the world. It will officially impact country radio on Monday, September 30.

Just days before dropping the new tune, the country stars recalled the first time they met at an award show and what their initial impressions were of each other.

“There’s always so much going on at those things and everybody’s just coming and going, but I remember leaving that night just saying, ‘I really like that guy and I hope I watch him do great things,” Underwood shared.

The “Dirt Cheap” singer added, “Well, I feel the same way. We’re around the same age, but I always grew up listening to your music and going, I wonder what it would be like to be in that position. They say don’t meet your heroes because you might get disappointed, and I was not disappointed. It’s really a breath of fresh air to meet someone that fame hasn’t affected and that has really stayed grounded.”

He later quipped, “When I told my little girls I met Carrie Underwood, they forgot all about Cody Johnson!”
