Cody Johnson is sharing more about the recent arrival of his son, Jaycee Daniel, after surprising fans with the news following an appearance on Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton.
The Texas native co-hosted the show this weekend and used the opportunity to share Jaycee’s birth story, explaining why they waited to make the announcement.
Calling in from his home in Texas, Johnson excitedly revealed the news.

“I didn’t know if you were gonna bring it up, but yeah, baby Jaycee, finally got my boy. He and mom are here at the house,” he stated proudly. “They’re happy & healthy, and it’s been a wonderful experience.”
The “Dirt Cheap” singer admitted the couple didn’t have a grand plan for announcing the baby, admitting that privacy is important to both him and his wife, Brandi.
“My publicist asked how and when we were gonna announce it. I said people will find out. There was no way if I did a call with Lon and he asked about it that I’m not gonna talk about it,” he shared. “With CMAs coming up, someone’s gonna ask, so it’s gonna get out. He was born on October 21st.”

Johnson added, “I’m a pretty private person, Brandi is too. Some artists post all the time. Not me. When I’m on stage with the guitar, I interact with the world. But when I take my hat off, I’m very private.”
Their casual approach to announcing Jaycee isn’t surprising as the couple shared Brandi’s pregnancy in a similar low-key way during an ACM Awards red carpet appearance, where her baby bump was visible.
At the time, Johnson told Cody Alan on SiriusXM’s The Highway that unveiling the surprise on the red carpet was all his idea.
“Jessie, my publicist, best publicist in the world. She’s like, ‘We need to figure out a way to release this.’ And I was like, ‘I think when she shows up at the ACMs and she looks like she’s smuggling a volleyball in her dress, it’s gonna be pretty obvious’… what better way to do it,” he explained.

The birth itself was a bit chaotic. Brandi’s water broke in the middle of the night, and Johnson was the one to drive her to the hospital.
“It was 1AM, couldn’t sleep, and about 2:30, Brandi said her water broke. I figured out her diesel truck tops out at about 125 miles an hour,” he joked.
Baby Jaycee joins big sisters Clara, 10, and Cori, 8.
