“I cannot date this guy because I have to go home and tell my dad how old he is,” she recalled thinking at the time.

Cole Swindell and his wife Courtney’s love story started with a brief meeting at a NASCAR race followed by coming together in a music video, but it took years before things turned romantic. When they finally started dating, Courtney admitted she had one big concern: their age gap. She recently opened up about why she hesitated at first and how her family reacted when she told them.
Courtney was working as a Monster Energy Girl when she and Cole first crossed paths. They kept in touch over the years, and in 2021, he asked her to appear in his music video for “Some Habits.” After filming, they went out for drinks, where Courtney got to know him better.

Speaking to Hanley Riggs on the iHeart podcast Married To The Music, Courtney, now 27, admitted she wasn’t sure what to expect from Cole, now 43, at first because of his life in the spotlight. However, it didn’t take long to discover that he was just as kind as he was talented.
“To be completely honest, I like didn’t know how he was going to be because I was like, ‘I don’t know. He’s in the spotlight and he’s probably not the nicest guy…’ Then I started talking to him and after that I was like, ‘wait, why is he so sweet and nice?’ He was so kind and super nice to the bartenders or waiters and I loved that because I was like, that’s a green flag,” she admitted.
Aside from wondering how his career in the spotlight might affect his character, Courtney had another concern when she found out that there was a 15-year age gap between them.
“I looking back I should have Googled. Like I should have just been like, ‘how old is Cole Swindell?’ And I knew he was quite a bit older than me. I just thought it was like 30s. Like I didn’t really think anything of it. But we were sitting at the bar and he asked how old I was and I told him. And then I asked how old he was and he said it and I was like, ‘oh my gosh.’ And like in my head, I’m like, ‘I cannot date this guy because I have to go home and tell my dad how old he is.’ And my dad’s going to be like, ‘wait, what?’ And so I was like, ‘I don’t know what to do now.’”
Courtney was quickly able to look past their age difference as she got to know Cole and saw how kind he was at heart. When she finally opened up to her family about her initial concerns, she recalled that her dad’s first question was, “Does he treat you nicely?” For Courtney, the answer was an easy “yes.”
“I was like, ‘if you meet him, you’ll love him.’ And I think my dad became a fan of his. I started seeing my dad having Cole Swindell on his AirPods…then he would watch his music videos and he’d be like, ‘hey, have you seen that one?’ And I’m like, ‘no, I haven’t watched it. Have you?’”

Courtney added that her dad and sister became fans of Cole after meeting him, just as she knew they would.
“They were obsessed with him. I knew they would. How could they not be?”
And the rest is history. The couple tied the knot on June 12, 2024, with an intimate ceremony in Sonoma, California and welcomed their first child, daughter Rainey Gail Swindell, on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
