Ryan Argast took a chance when he decided to cover Dan + Shay’s “Speechless” for his blind audition on The Voice, knowing that he would be performing in front of the duo themselves. It appears that risk paid off because Argast got a chair turn from the award-winning duo and even had the opportunity to sing with them!

You never know what’s going to happen during The Voice blind auditions and Monday’s premiere was no exception. Ryan Argast, a member of the band Marina City, delivered a soaring rendition of “Speechless,” Dan + Shay’s No.1 hit from 2018.

As the duo listened from their custom double chair, they appeared to be really into his performance, however, they waited until he was almost finished to finally turn their chair.

The duo gave him a standing ovation, telling him, “Great song choice!”

While the other coaches didn’t turn their chairs, they offered the Illinois native some feedback.

“I love the texture of your voice. I love that. It feels like it’s breaking, but it’s strong at the same time. Welcome to The Voice,” John Legend shared.

Chance the Rapper joked, “I could tell that Dan + Shay wanted to turn, they just wanted to hear more of their own song before they turned around!”

Finally, Reba added, “You are going to have such a good time with these two over here. They’re knowledgeable. They are such great singers, songwriters, so sorry I missed out on it, but you’re going to have fun with it.”

A “Risky” Move

After complimenting his hair, Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney told the contestant, “It was risky, man. But it paid off, dude. I knew exactly what I was listening for and you were the magic we were looking for, man.”

Dan Smyers added, “The beginning of it was super true to form super sexy, super R&B, and when that chorus hit, you made it your own. I’m going to be thinking about that performance every time we sing that song. Now we’re trying to keep up with you, man.”

Just when viewers thought it was over, Legend suggested that Dan + Shay get up to sing with Ryan Argast.

“Let’s do it brother,” Mooney shouted.

Moments later, Dan + Shay joined Argast on stage to perform more of Speechless.

“This is nuts,” the contestant admitted.

Together, they delivered a goosebumps-inducing performance of the song.

The Voice returns to NBC with another round of blind auditions next Monday and Tuesday at 8/7c.
