Lauren Alaina is currently on the road with Darius Rucker for his Songs of Summer Tour, and when she joined him on stage in Clarkston, Michigan over the weekend for a duet of “Jackson” by Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash, the performance took an unexpected turn.
In the middle of the song, Alaina surprised the country star by teaming up with Rucker’s band for an unexpected performance of “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-a-Lot, turning the duet into a hilarious and unforgettable moment.
Alaina later shared a video of the spontaneous moment on social media, which has now raked in 600,000 views on Instagram alone.

“Darius asked me to sing Jackson with him last night but I had other plans…” the text overlay on the video reads.
In the clip, the pair of artists begin singing “Jackson” as planned before the band transitions into “Baby Got Back.” Alaina immediately takes control of the moment, bringing the sass and energy she’s known for. She makes her way to the front of the crowd, who quickly joins in singing along to every word, while she works the stage and Rucker laughs while watching it all unfold.
“Michigan, thanks for having my BACK last night 😂 Shoutout to @dariusrucker and his band for helping me make this happen.”
Rucker was quick to comment, “Hahahahahahaha,” while Alaina asked fans, “Should I add this to the set list immediately or….?”
Lauren Alaina later clarified that the surprise was all part of the plan, writing, “his band and I cooked it up and then asked permission,” letting fans know Rucker was in on the fun.
During the performance, she admitted on stage, “I was not supposed to do that,” before walking off and adding, “Actually that was sick.”

Fans applauded the performance in the comments section of her post.
“The most epic thing you’ve ever done….. and you’ve done a lot, one user wrote.
Another shared, “I’m at a loss for words. This is ICONIC.”
Rucker’s Songs of Summer Tour continues on July 16 in Washington, D.C., with dates scheduled through August 1. Alaina is joining him for select shows, alongside additional featured guests including George Birge, Robert Randolph, Old Crow Medicine Show, Evan Honer, and Austin Williams.
In addition to her appearances with Rucker, Lauren Alaina has a full summer ahead with performances at various festivals before kicking off her Stages Tour this fall in support of her upcoming album of the same name, arriving August 28.
