Dierks Bentley paid a visit to NBC’s Today Show on Thursday (August 1) and he left with a puppy!

Stopping by the popular morning show to perform on the Today Citi Concert Series, the superstar also joined Today hosts Al Roker, Savannah Guthrie and Sheinelle Jones to chat about fatherhood and his upcoming Seven Peaks Festival.

While on the show, Bentley also joined the hosts to introduce a segment called “Dogust,” which encouraged the adoption of shelter dogs throughout the month of August. During the segment, Bentley was tasked to hold a Border Collie mix named Goose and he immediately fell in love.

“I feel a connection. I feel like it’s meant to be,” he said with a smile.

His wife, Cassidy, and children, Jordan, Evie and Knox, were at home watching and quickly sent him a text message begging him to adopt the sweet pup.

“They really want a third dog. My wife, for her birthday, said, ‘All I want for my birthday is a third dog.’ I’m like, ‘We’re not getting a third dog. We already have two dogs. Three dogs is a lot.,’” he said.

But he couldn’t bring himself to say no.

“I got pictures of the kids jumping up and down going crazy,” he shared. “We’re playing Jones Beach tomorrow. They’re coming to Jones beach just to see the dog.”

Goose joins Bentley’s two other dogs, Patch and Emmy.

Dierks Bentley is currently in the midst of his massive Burning Man Tour, which runs through September 8. Bentley’s much-anticipated Seven Peaks Festival will take place in Buena Vista, Colorado August 30 – September 1. Tickets are on sale now. Fans can visit Bentley’s Facebook page to enter for a chance to win a trip to the festival.
