Dylan Scott’s new holiday release, “Two Christmas Trees,” is far more than another Christmas song, it’s a heartfelt family story 40 years in the making. Originally co-written by his father in the 1980s, the track is one Dylan grew up hearing often. Now, he’s brought it to life in a new way, recording his own version and featuring vocals from his son Beckett, turning it into a three-generation Scott family moment.

Earlier this week, Dylan teased the song on social media, sharing the emotional moment he surprised his dad with the finished recording. The clip shows his father’s stunned reaction as he listens, paired with a preview of the song’s deeply relatable lyrics about a young boy writing to Santa, explaining that he has two Christmas trees, one at Mom’s house and one at Dad’s, and where each gift should go.

“Leave my bike at Daddy’s he wants to see me ride/ Leave my train at Mama’s so I can play inside/ I know this sounds confusing, but it’s really not to me/ Santa I’ve got two Christmas trees,” he sings on the chorus.

The song’s emotional storyline will immediately resonate with anyone who grew up between two households or has raised children through divorce.

Fans were quick to react to the song on social media.

“As a girl who grew up with 2 Christmas trees and just lost her dad a year ago, this definitely pulled the heartstrings. I love it so much,” one user wrote, while another shared, “Coming from a 2 Christmas tree household and now raising a little boy who has to go between homes… this one really hit hard.”

Though Dylan himself didn’t experience divorce growing up, “Two Christmas Trees” was a familiar, meaningful song throughout his childhood, and now he’s passing it down, creating a new holiday memory for his own family.

“My dad wrote a Christmas song years before I was even born – one I’ve listened to my whole life,” the singer/songwriter explained. “This year, I surprised him by recording it and adding my son, Beckett, to the track. Three generations together on one very special Christmas song.”

The new release adds to Scott’s growing collection of holiday music, which includes “Jingle Bell Rock,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas,” “Mary, Did You Know?” and “Winter Wonderland.” “Two Christmas Trees” also caps off a monumental year for the multi-Platinum artist, who dropped his third studio album, Easy Does It, earlier in 2025.

The album includes the single “What He’ll Never Have,” currently climbing in the Top 20 at country radio, and “This Town’s Been Too Good To Us,” which became Scott’s sixth career No. 1 this year. He kicked off 2025 at the top of the charts with “Boys Back Home,” featuring Dylan Marlowe, giving him two No. 1 hits this year, with another on the rise.
