Ella Langley recently opened up about her latest song to heat up stages and country radio airwaves, “Weren’t For The Wind.” The fan-favorite single offers a wispy sound with strong western influences, and after learning how the song came to be, it’s clear why those elements came together to create the perfect blend of country music storytelling.
This track was born during a unique moment on the road. At the time, Langley was in the midst of her opening run on Jon Pardi’s 2023 Mr. Saturday Night World Tour. She had already arrived in Idaho for their next show when Pardi suddenly announced the cancelation of that weekend’s performances due to him getting sick. Instead of turning around and going home, Langley decided to use the time to crank out some new music with the songwriters who had joined her, Johnny Clawson and Joybeth Taylor.

“We just sat on the bus and wrote as much as we could and then flew home,” she told Country Now during her recent appearance on The Pupdate.
The Alabama native specifically recalled driving through Wyoming and admiring the beautiful scenery along the road. She leaned into what she was feeling in that moment and in no time, they had written Langley’s next single.
“I don’t know if you’ve ever been through Wyoming, but it’s just, it’s all this beautiful land. It’s just flat. There’s horses everywhere. I just vividly, like every time I drive through Wyoming, there’s always one moment where there’s this horse running alongside of whatever I’m in. I’m like, love that. So I feel like it’s just these westerny type vibes. And I don’t know, that one just kind of fell out. I can’t even remember who brought in that title. I don’t even think we had a title for it. The song just fell out that way.”
The powerful storytelling that highlights the self-reflective journey of someone who is unable to stay rooted in one place for too long, ultimately leading to a constant struggle with commitment and maintaining relationships. Langley goes on to contemplates what her life would look like if things were different and she were able to find a partner and settle down, but for the time being, she has comes to terms with the face that factors outside of her control have made that impossible.
Between this incredible songwriting and the addictive melody it’s paired with, Langley says that it became a standout on her latest record among her team and even fellow country star, Miranda Lambert. But most importantly, she is proud of how much fans have gravitated towards the song.
“I sent Miranda the record, and she’s like ‘Weren’t For The Wind,’ out of all 18,” Langley shared. “That was just a lot of people’s favorite song. And honestly, the fans have picked it more than anything.”
“Weren’t For The Wind” impacted airwaves at the top of 2025 and has now worked its way up to No. 19 on the Mediabase, marking her first-ever solo Top 20 hit at Country radio.
“My goal as a songwriter, as an artist is to put out the best songs I could possibly put out and then kind of let the fans take it from there. And I love them all. So whatever one goes, I guess I’m happy with. But this one really struck a chord with people and I don’t know if it’s the melody or the words or whatever the heck it may be, but hopefully it just keeps going,” she said hopefully.
The song appears on Still Hungover, the deluxe edition of 2024’s Hungover album. The collection as a whole features 18 songs, which she chose to divide up in order to be more digestible for her listeners.

“I think it’s important for people to kind of be able to digest the music. Someone like Morgan Wallen who has been putting out music over and over and over again, at this point, you can put out that much…But for me, being a young artist, I wanted to give them time to digest 14 and then give four more afterwards. And those four, we had a lot of different variations on what was going to be on the deluxe and what was going to be on Hungover, the actual record. And I felt like those songs were a full-time vibe. So I don’t know. That’s literally what decided it,” she explained.
Ella Langley is already back in the studio working on her next project. “I never stop,” she honestly admitted.
“I’m a creative through and through. I literally am constantly thinking about, like I say, I’m terrible at relaxing, but I also enjoy this job. I love what I do. I’m grateful I get to do this every day. So the creative part is my favorite.”
The rising star is in the midst of her sold-out headlining Still Hungover Tour, which runs through April. She’ll also join Riley Green on his Damn Country Music Tour throughout the year.
