Emily Ann Roberts Blown Away By Fan-Crocheted Dolls Made To Look Like Her And Husband Chris Sasser

Emily Ann Roberts and her husband, Chris Sasser, have received plenty of thoughtful gifts from fans over the years, but one surprise waiting for them after her recent show in Brunswick, Georgia, easily stands out from the rest.

After her sold-out show at the Center for the Arts on Friday, July 10, the songstress and her husband jumped on social media with a new video previewing the assortment of gift baskets, treats and presents fans had brought to the show. They appeared very thankful for everything they received from listeners but couldn’t help call attention to a specific handmade gift that completely blew them away.  

“You are never going to believe what somebody has given us…They’re not ready for this,” Roberts gushed.

She then revealed two crocheted dolls designed to look just like her and her husband. The girl doll had bright blonde hair and wore a pink dress paired with a blue vest, perfectly matching the outfit she wore for her Cowgirl magazine photoshoot earlier this year.

“And if you don’t think that’s enough…,” Roberts teased before reaching into the gift bag once more.

“This is the best part,” Chris added.

She then revealed a second crocheted doll modeled after her husband, complete with his signature bald head, baseball cap and even a miniature belt buckle, proving every detail of this craft was carefully thought out.

“Look, they made him bald because he is in fact a bald-headed boy. Look at the detail on this. Even the back of the hat’s got the opening…it’s amazing,” she shared.

The husband and wife also discovered that each doll’s clothing featured tiny buttons on the back, allowing the outfits to be changed if they chose to. Even though Roberts has become known for her love of crocheting, and has even dubbed herself a “YeeHaw Meemaw,” she admitted this level of craftsmanship was “art” compared to anything she’s ever created with a hook and yarn.

“This is talent. I crochet little goofy squares. This is art. And now we have crochet versions of us. I told Chris that we need to put them on our nightstand. I’ll get his on my nightstand so that he can have me on his nightstand,” she said with a smile.

Chris went on to explain that back when they were traveling London, the “Whipped” singer spotted a very similar crochet doll that she was dying to bring home. But it was too expensive, so they passed and she has admittingly been missing that doll every day since. Now she is clearly overjoyed to have finally secured her own and the fact that they look just like them was icing on the cake.

“Now someone has given me a version of me and a doll and Mr. Sasser. I love them,” Roberts stated before adding, “Whoever made us these, I love you so much with my whole heart and I’m going to cherish them forever and ever.”

While unpacking everything, the couple realized the dolls didn’t come with a card or note identifying the creator. It wasn’t long before the mystery was solved, however, as a user named Stephanie Barnes took to the comments to reveal she was the one who made them.

Stephanie wrote, “I’m SO glad you love them! I had so much fun making them and LOVED the entire concert last night!”

She even shared a photo of the dolls to her Instagram page and explained she was “tickled pink” to see Emily Ann Roberts perform live in concert that night and to give her the gift that she worked so hard on.

“I got a little extra creative with my trusty crochet hook to make everyone’s favorite Bam Girl, Yeehaw MeeMaw and her love, Chris @sasserhouse in amigurumi form. 💖🤠💕 I am just a beginner at creating my own original designs, so credit is due to @sevgili_ilmkler , @zipzipdreams , and @hobiparkim . Ideas from different elements of their beautiful design helped to guide me through this particular project,” she wrote.

Emily Ann Roberts is often seen wearing her own crochet pieces, most recently during her performance on ABC’s Fourth of July special when she sported a red crochet top with red, white and blue flora appliques.

As someone who spends plenty of time with a crochet hook herself, Roberts knows just how much work goes into a project like this. That made the thoughtful gift that much more meaningful.
