Country music superstar Eric Church has released his single, “Heart on Fire,” the latest release off of his three part project, Heart & Soul. This song is the lead-off track on the Heart disc of Church’s album, which was released earlier this year.

This sentimental tune imagines a past stage in time, when life was filled with youth and the desire to spend every day like it’s the last.

“A turned up radio, but the static was heavy/ Couldn’t make out any words but ‘take me to the levee’/ That look on your face was full of wild desire/ Soakin’ my soul in gas and settin’ my heart on fire,” Church sings on the uptempo chorus.

During a recent interview with his label, Church discussed the marathon recording session, which took place over the course of 28 days in North Carolina in early 2020. “Heart on Fire” was initially written by Church, but during the recording process, he was joined by producer Jay Joyce and a whole team of songwriters and musicians, including his band and Joanna Cotton on backup vocals.

“So, ‘Heart On Fire’ was the first song we recorded when we got to North Carolina,” explained Church. “I already had pretty much, I wrote this song by myself, but I already had this song on the rails and we were heading down the path of what this was going to be. I thought we needed to kind of break the ice and get started on something, you know, we were doing something that was tough to do – writing the song the same day we were record it. This was the song that was kind of the icebreaker for the whole project, and I credit this song a lot for getting us to where we ended up getting to with the project.”

Church went above and beyond with this ambitious project and the decision to release three albums all within one month. Heart was made available on April 16, followed by the middle album & on April 20 in an exclusive release on vinyl to members of his fan club, the Church Choir, and finally, Soul on April 23.

This fall, Church will take his triple project on the road with him for his Gather Again Tour, starting off on September 17 at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Ky. Alongside his band, Church plans to hit 55 cities in North America with a final stop at Madison Square Garden in New York City on May 20, 2022.
