Rising country artist Nicky James has been readying the release of a new EP, and Country Now is excited to share the exclusive premiere for his brand new self-penned single “Addicts Knot.”
Produced by the Grammy-nominated Eric Torres, “Addicts Knot” paints a picture of what it’s like to struggle with the ups and downs of personal addiction. Lonely sounds of picking guitars and the artful twang of pedal steel capture the attention of listeners, as James puts his powerhouse vocals to work on carefully thought out lyrics that have him asking questions to a loved one, who’s dependence is interfering with their daily life.
“What does getting better look like for you / I just wanna know / Are you done driving down a one lane road,” James emotionally sings throughout the chorus of the ballad. “Tell me do you feel like you’re alone / Stuck in the same spot / Trying to get free from an addicts knot.”
James opened up about the inspiration behind “Addicts Knot,” telling Country Now, “We live in a society today where certain things are taboo to talk about – one of which seems to be the growing addiction issues plaguing not only our world but our younger generations. ‘Addicts Knot’ is inspired by the people close to me that I’ve seen go through this disease. Many of whom are still battling to fight that urge for one more fix. I want them to know that they are loved, they are missed, and I believe in their process to untangle an addict’s knot.”
“Addicts Knot” is the follow up to James’ light-hearted release, “Your Name On It,” co-written by songwriters Matt Rodgers and Wendell Mobley. Both “Your Name On It” and “Addicts Knot” can be found on James’ upcoming second EP.
Take a listen to James’ “Addicts Knot” in the clip above.
