Whitney Duncan recently recorded an acoustic cover of “Blue Christmas” and she’s premiering the performance clip exclusively on Country Now.
In the performance video, the Tennessee native is joined by her producer and frequent co-writer, Michael Carter, as she sings the beloved holiday classic. Duncan’s beautiful vocals bring the song to life as Carter accompanies her on acoustic guitar.
“Blue Christmas” was originally made famous by Elvis Presley, who recorded it for his 1957 holiday album, Elvis’ Christmas Album. Duncan has fond memories of that album and this song specifically as it reminds her of her grandfather.
“Well, Elvis’ Christmas album is my absolute favorite. I chose ‘Blue Christmas’ because my Grandad and I used to drive around singing it while we looked at Christmas lights and I’d sing the ‘Ooh Ooh’ background vocals,” she explains. “His health is not great right now, and I haven’t been able to spend much time with him lately because of Covid. This song always brings back good memories.”
“Blue Christmas” has also been recorded by artists such as Ernest Tubb, The Beach Boys, Kelly Clarkson, Lady A and Brett Eldredge.
