Gabby Barrett Adopts Stray Dog: ‘I Couldn’t Resist’
“Nobody was claiming her. So we decided to claim her ourselves. And now we have a doggie,” she shared.

Gabby Barrett has unexpectedly added a new member to her family. The country star and her husband already have a full household with three young children, but when a four-legged pup showed up on their doorstep, they decided there was room for one more.
This week, Barrett took to her Instagram stories to share how this new furry friend, who they named, Macy, ended up in their hands. She explained that living in “the middle of nowhere” in Texas, it’s not uncommon to find stray dogs running around. One night, their security camera detected an animal on their porch and when they looked they say a “really skinny” Siberian Husky, who was clearly in desperate need of some love and care.
“You could see her ribs, you could see her butt bones, like her tailbone. She had patches of fur missing on the back. She was very hungry. She looked like she was looking for something,” said the songstress.

Being the huge animal lovers that she and her husband are, they couldn’t help but try and help this dog.
“I couldn’t resist. I have such a heart for animals. Oh my goodness. It affects me so bad when I see animals doing poorly, especially dogs. I grew up with dogs and Cade actually wanted to be a veterinarian when he was little. So he has a care for animals as well, which is really sweet.”
At first, they just put out some leftovers on the porch and watched from the cameras as Macy “ate it all up.” Sure enough, she kept coming back for more, so they took the next step and got her a dog house. They waited to see if anyone would claim her, but with no luck, she found her new home with the American Idol alums and their children.
“We got her some dog food and nobody was claiming her. So we decided to claim her ourselves. And now we have a doggie,” Barrett said with excitement. “Yes, I have three children under the age, well, four and under, and now a dog. But we’ll figure it out like we always do. And if you see stray animals, please just take the extra second to feed them, give them something, give them some love. So that’s my story time,” she said in conclusion.

Thanks to Gabby Barrett’s big heart, that Husky will get the help it needs to hopefully live a long and happy life. The “Goldmine” singer is keeping herself busy with the new responsibility on top of caring for her three children – Baylah May (4), Augustine Boone (2) and Ivy Josephine (1) – and working on new music.
Barrett was relatively quiet at the start of the year due to an illness funning through her family, however now that she’s recovered, she is back to teasing new music and preparing for a summer full of shows.
