HARDY and Lainey Wilson Join Forces For Powerful New Song ‘wait in the truck’
HARDY and Lainey Wilson are changing the game with the release of “wait in the truck.”
HARDY, Lainey Wilson – wait in the truck
Country music’s redneck rocker, HARDY, and bell bottom queen, Lainey Wilson, have joined forces for a dark country ballad called “wait in the truck.”
Out now, the track serves as the first collaboration between the two artists who are currently taking over the country music scene. It also reveals a new side of HARDY, who co-penned the track alongside Hunter Phelps, Jordan Schmidt and Renee Blair. Joey Moi produced with co-production from HARDY, Derek Wells, and Jordan Schmidt.
The song is a true country music story-telling song and tells the tale of domestic abuse and a murder as HARDY and Wilson trade off vocals.
“Well, she was bruised and broke from head to toe / With a tear in her blood-stained shirt / She didn’t tell the whole truth / But she didn’t have to I knew what had happened to her / I didn’t load her down with questions / That girl had been through enough / I just threw it in drive / Looked in those eyes/ And asked her where he was,” HARDY sings.
The pair’s impressive vocals are elevated as they effortlessly blend with a wistful guitar strum and gospel choir to construct an ill-fated storyline.
“I don’t know if he’s angel / Cause angels don’t do what he did / He was hell-bent to find the man behind All the whiskey scars I hid / I never thought my day of justice Would come from a judge under his seat But I knew right then I’d never get hit again when he said to me Wait in the truck Just wait in the truck,” goes the chorus.
HARDY and Wilson’s “wait in the truck” is a career-changing song, likely to take the artists’ already red-hot careers to a new level.
“’wait in the truck,’ my next single, is one of my favorite songs I’ve ever written – probably the best song I’ve ever written to be honest,” HARDY admits. “It hit me so hard the first time I heard the demo back, and no other song had done that before. Very excited for the world to hear the song, excited for the song to give people a platform to maybe speak out about stuff that might be going on in their own homes. Thank you to Lainey Wilson for doing this song with me – she crushed it, she crushed the music video, I just can’t wait for the world to see this and I can’t wait to play it live.”
“I always love working with HARDY, but this track is extra special,” Wilson shares. “I am so proud to be part of ‘wait in the truck’ because it’s such a powerful song and story, and I really do think it will change lives.”
The eerie music video follows the song’s storyline perfectly and tells the story of the domestic violence that Wilson’s character has endured. The cinematic clip showcases HARDY’s character’s response to the abuse and the aftermath of his decision to take justice into his own hands.

HARDY sent fans into a frenzy earlier this week when he shared a video teaser on social media with the caption, “I am so excited to finally announce my next single, wait in the truck, feat. @laineywilsonmusic, is out this Friday. Thanks to everyone involved. This is a special one ❤️🛻”
The “Things A Man Oughta Know” singer is shown with blood dripping down her face and dirt-filled clothing while HARDY tells her to wait in the truck as his protective instincts kick in. He grabs his handgun and hops out of the truck into the thunderstorm, prepared to face the person who caused her pain. Meanwhile, flashes of images race across the screen foreshadowing what’s to come.
This collaboration follows Wilson’s most recent releases, “Watermelon Moonshine” and “Heart Like A Truck.” Both of these tracks will be featured on her upcoming album, Bell Bottom Country, dropping on October 28.
As for HARDY, he is in the midst of supporting Morgan Wallen on the record-breaking The Dangerous Tour and continues to drop music along the way, like his latest single, “Sold Out.”
This week, the “Rednecker” singer announced his headlining The Wall to Wall Tour, which will kick off on December 1 in Athens, GA. Artist on the rise, Jackson Dean will come on the road for the entire time as direct support, while platinum-selling rock band Puddle of Mudd is set to join for one night only, in Columbia, South Carolina.
Tickets will officially go on sale on Friday, August 26 at 10 a.m. local time.
“I’m stoked to take this Wall to Wall Tour on the road,” HARDY said in a recent press release. “We’re hitting some cities and venues that I absolutely love; I’m happy to have Jackson out with me and honored that the guys from Puddle of Mudd are joining us in Columbia. It’s going to be a great time – a loud time – every night, and it’s just the beginning of what we have in store. See you out there.”
