Jake Owen returns to his Florida roots in the brand-new music video for his current single, “On The Boat Again.”
The warm air anthem makes for the perfect summer soundtrack to a day on the water as it reflects the chorus of Willie Nelson’s classic “On the Road Again.” Owen has taken the signature track and recorded a new, beachy version that still holds the same country-rooted melody and old-school sincerity in the lyrics. Upon its impact to country radio, “On The Boat Again” earned a whopping 67 first-week adds.
The feel-good energy of this song is reflected in the music video as it comes to life in its rightful place on the water. Released August 2 via Wanted Man Pictures, the Spidey Smith-directed clip opens with Owen being summoned to play hooky and join his hometown friends for a fun-filled weekend on the houseboat. Although he tries to do the mature thing, the country singer finds that he can’t resist the peer pressure of a sun-soaked plan that’s calling his name.
Filmed In Florida

Suddenly, the “Made For You” singer finds himself securing a spot on the boat with all the necessities, including a taxidermy deer head, a cooler, fishing poles, hot sauce, and of course, his captain’s hat. Highlights from the whimsical day on the water were captured between Vero Beach, FL and Ft. Pierce, FL and intertwined with clips of Owen and his band singing along to the tune from the dock filled with friends, family, and fans.
“On the boat again/ I just can’t wait to get on the boat again/ The life I love is drinking cold beer with my friends/ I can’t wait to get on the boat again,” Owen sings on the chorus.
Watch
Between all the behind-the-scenes snapshots taken on set, it’s clear that the makings of this video were memorable for everyone involved, especially Owen whose bright smile never left his face.
“I had a blast with some of my hometown, absolute best friends making this video. I’m sure to see y’all on the boat again sometime soon,” Owen wrote on social media. “thanks to my buddy @spideysmith for always trusting my crazy ideas and capturing them in such a real way. 🤙🏽🤙🏽”

Willie Nelson received writing credits on the tune alongside songwriters Blake Pendergrass, Devin Dawson, Kyle Fishman and Rocky Block. Not only does the song serve as a perfect addition to Jake Owen’s catalog of summertime anthems such as “Barefoot Blue Jean Night,” “Beachin’,” but it also appears on his seventh studio album, Loose Cannon.
“One thing that I think I’ve missed over the last few years is not giving Country radio the songs that they really like. I think they’re waiting for me to give them another Summer Jake Owen song that feels good that they, they’re like, ‘yes, this is you,’” Owen previously told Country Now and other outlets. “And so that’s kind of what ‘On The Boat Again’ is. And it’s something that I think is fun and you can’t take it so seriously. That’s why people have a good time listening to it. And I think too, that’s why I’ve been excited and happy about putting out music is because if you don’t take yourself so seriously, you can have a lot more fun.”
New Album

The 16-track project dropped June 23 and features a slew of fan-favorite new tracks including “Hot Truck Beer,” “Solo, Solo” and “Nothing.”
In addition, the title of the collection stems from the track “Loose Cannon,” which finds the country singer delivering a staggering love story to the special person who acts as an “anchor” to his hardheaded personality and somewhat reckless lifestyle.
“This song got sent to me called ‘Loose Cannon,’ and every line in the song, it was kind of written about my life,” Jake Owen shared with Country Now. “I’m just this kind of guy that flies by the seat of my pants. I’m always in one place or another. I’m never really steady. I’m kind of restless and that’s what it’s about.”
He continued, “But luckily, I have these two little girls in my life and I’m lucky enough to be a dad. I have a great girl with Erica, my fiancée. So, they’re kind of like my rock in this life, and I feel like it was the perfect way to title what this album’s all about, which is kind of how I feel and how my life is going.”
