Jana Kramer has endured her fair share of heartbreak over the years. Following two divorces and a broken engagement, the actress turned country star finally found her true love with former NFL player Michael Caussin. Things haven’t always been easy for Kramer and Caussin, however. Here’s a look back on the pair’s tumultuous love story.
After her engagement with fellow country singer Brantley Gilbert ended in the summer of 2013, Kramer took some time to enjoy being single.
“For the first time in my life, I was happy being alone,” she told US Weekly.
Much to her surprise, social media led her to Caussin the following summer.
“We met on Twitter,” she later confessed to Billboard. “It’s the new Match.com, I guess.”
After a few months of dating, Caussin surprised Kramer with a proposal on her 31st birthday.
“It was a beautiful surprise,” the country singer and former One Tree Hill star said in a statement. “He was the perfect gentleman. Nervous, on one knee, and surrounded by some of the people that love us the most.”
They married less than six months later in Charlottesville, Virginia. The couple’s intimate outdoor ceremony took place May 22, 2015 and was attended by a small number of family and friends.
The newlyweds wasted no time starting a family and announced they were expecting shortly after their wedding. Their daughter, Jolie Rae, arrived January 31, 2016.
Tragedy struck seven months later when it was revealed that Kramer and Caussin had separated and that the former football player had entered rehab for an undisclosed reason. It was later revealed that Caussin was unfaithful to Kramer on multiple occasions.
They remained separated and tried to co-parent Jolie the best they could. They even attended therapy together and even went on a counseling retreat to try to save their marriage.
By the fall of 2017, Kramer and Caussin were back on and ready to expand their family once again.
Kramer got pregnant, but ultimately suffered a miscarriage. She revealed that it was her third miscarriage overall in an emotional post to Instagram.
“This unfortunately isn’t my first loss,” she shared, hoping to help other women going through similar situations. “When I first found out I was pregnant I wanted to shout it from the rooftop but I know for reasons like this we have to wait. So because we don’t tell many, we have to suffer silently…and suffering silently was my thing in the past, but it’s not now.”
The couple pushed past the heartache and decided to start fresh. In December 2017, while vacationing in Hawaii, Kramer and Caussin renewed their wedding vows.
“Honestly, it’s been a really amazing healing experience,” Kramer told US Weekly in early 2018. “I feel like it’s weird. I never want to say I am grateful for the experience because every day is a struggle to stay connected and be together. But at the same time, it has made us so much stronger.”
“So I don’t know what tomorrow can bring or the next day, but I just know that we’re both actively working at it,” she continued. “I think for us, renewing our vows, was something like we’re both committed to each other and letting the past be something that fuels us to be better people.”
Kramer and Caussin continued their efforts to expand their family and in the summer of 2018, they revealed that they had a miracle baby on the way.
Jace Joseph joined their family on November 29, 2018.
“Our hearts are so full,” the proud mom shared on Instagram. “Thank you to all of our friends and family…and all of you who have supported Mike and I, and our growing family.”
Through it all, Kramer and Caussin have been transparent to fans about their struggles. They continue to open up about their marriage and family on the Whine Down with Jana Kramer podcast.
