Josh Turner and his wife Jennifer Ford met while attending college. The pair crossed paths in the late 1990s during their time studying at Belmont University in Nashville and quickly became friends.
“Meeting her wasn’t planned or expected, but our friendship felt completely different,” Turner recalled in his book, Man Stuff: Thoughts on Faith, Family and Fatherhood, released in 2014. “For the first time, I was truly on cloud nine. I can’t really explain that time other than to say it was unbelievable.”
Although things seemed to feel right, Josh and Jennifer didn’t rush things. In fact, Turner said they took it “real slow” and admitted that Ford didn’t refer to him as her boyfriend until six months into their relationship.
In November 2002, Turner hoped to take their relationship to the next level when he planned a romantic surprise proposal at Nashville’s Percy Priest Lake. Before asking for Ford’s hand in marriage, Turner performed “I Can See It In Your Smile,” a song he wrote just for her, then pulled an engagement ring out of his jacket pocket.
“Jennifer said, ‘Are you serious?’” the GRAMMY nominated singer recalled. “I said, ‘Yes, I’m serious!’”
The pair said “I do” in front of 500 guests at the Snellville United Methodist Church on June 14, 2003.
Fans may recognize Ford as she has spent quite a bit of time on the road with Turner and his band playing keyboard and singing background vocals over the years.
Josh and Jennifer are parents to four sons; Samuel Hawke, Marion Crawford, Colby Lynch and Hampton Otis.
