Kacey Musgraves brings the story of “Mexico Honey” to life in the song’s official music video, transforming the sultry summer anthem into a series of cinematic visuals depicting passion, connection, and unforgettable moments.
The Running Bear directed video was fittingly filmed in Mexico, bringing fans back to the place where Musgraves spent extensive time gaining experiences that would go on to inspire her latest album, Middle of Nowhere.

Viewers see the story begin to unfold when Musgraves meets a man in a cowboy hat while singing “Mexico Honey” at a local karaoke bar, setting the scene for the spontaneous connection that quickly develops. The pair set off to explore the streets of Mexico together, and wind up developing a strong chemistry that leads them to test out a deeper intimacy.
The story then moves inside the home, where Musgraves and her love interest grow closer through a series of steamy moments that highlight the passionate romance that feels exciting, carefree, and almost too good to be true. Moving from room to room, the sensual scenes mirror the song’s themes of desire and vulnerability.

Musgraves also pushes the boundaries as she appears nude or with minimal clothing in several clips, further emphasizing the deep hunger for connection. There is clearly a heavy dose of confidence and intoxicating flirtation between the two, so they live in the moment, trying to soak up as much time together before it becomes a moment of the past.
“You’re going down smooth like Mexico, honey/ Take my heart, take all my money/ I want you so bad, it ain’t even funny/ I mean for real, what the hell/ You got me shaking my ass in my hot pink shorts/ You’re laying down laughing on the bathroom floor/ Oh, I dropped it down, you said you’ll stay/ We’re gonna ride this wave ’til it breaks, yeah,” Musgraves sings on the chorus.
The video builds toward a dreamy ending as Musgraves, wearing a flowing white dress, jumps into the arms of her love interest, who is also dressed in white, hinting at the lasting impact of their whirlwind romance.
“Mexico Honey” appears on the eight-time GRAMMY® Award-winning singer/songwriter’s sixth studio album Middle of Nowhere, which arrived in May and debuted at #1 on the Top Album chart. Produced by Musgraves alongside longtime collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the album was written during a period of reflection following an intense breakup. It features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, Billy Strings, and Gregory Alan Isakov.
Fans can catch Kacey Musgraves on the road throughout her Middle of Nowhere North American Tour, which opens at Chicago’s United Center on August 20 and runs through October. Support acts on the tour include Midland, Flatland Cavalry, Carter Faith, Estevie, Charles Wesley Godwin, William Beckmann, Gabriella Rose and The Brudi Brothers.
