Although Kane Brown’s wife Katelyn was not able to be on site for his recent performance at The OC Smoke Show in San Juan Capistrano, California, he still found a way to make her part of the moment when it came time to perform their hit duet, “Thank God.”

As Brown prepared to sing the fan-favorite song, the crowd was noticeably upset to hear that Katelyn wasn’t there to join him onstage. Knowing how much fans love seeing the couple perform the song together, Brown decided to facetime his other half in front of the audience.

He jokingly pointed out that since it was 11:30 her time, the call would likely wake her up, thus getting him in some trouble, especially since she was battling the flu back at their house in Florida.

“It’ll be okay. I’ve been in timeout before,” he said.

The country star continued talking to the crowd before realizing that his wife had picked up. He held the phone to the microphone.

“Hi, babe. So they’re kind of upset that you’re not here. I told them you got the flu…I know you’re not going to, but can you turn the light on so they can see your face?”

Katelyn seemed to hesitantly agree after jokingly telling him, “I’m going to kill you,” and turned the camera on, appearing in the dark room with a small light making her face visible on the phone. As usual, Brown made sure to tell his wife how good she looked even feeling sick and feeling woken up unexpectedly.

“Girl, I mean, you can never look bad. You look beautiful.”

He then asked her how she was feeling to which she replied, “not good,” earning some sympathy from the crowd. Brown explained that Katelyn has been since ever since he left to head out on the road a week and a half ago.

The couple said their “I love you’s” and ended the call. Brown said he would have normally asked her to sing her part in the song via phone if she didn’t have the flu keeping her under the weather.

He shared that it was a rare moment to see his wife and the mother of his children sick, describing her as “golden.”

“It’s like when I leave, the house falls apart because I’m a man and I hold my house,” Brown stated before quickly clarifying that he was just messing around. “I’m joking. I’m joking. She holds the house down. I’m just kidding. Don’t put me in jail, don’t put nothing TikTok.”

Brown proceeded to perform “Thank God” on his own this time and finished out the rest of his set. Fans who have had the chance to see the lovebirds perform “Thank God” together live are certainly lucky, as their chemistry both on and off stage makes the fan-favorite duet an especially memorable moment in every show.

The “Miles On It” singer currently has just three U.S. performances left in the year before kicking off 2027 with a run of shows across Australia in January.
