Charles Kelley of Lady Antebellum may be a successful country music star, but when it comes to his home life, he’s just like any other doting dad. The father of three-year-old son Ward recently opened up about his child’s personality, saying that he and his little man have a lot in common when it comes to their personal characteristics – something he also says he shares with his own father.

“I always have seen a lot of my dad in myself and everybody in my family has said that,” Kelley shared recently. “I love to work. I definitely got a lot of his work ethic and his stubbornness to think he can solve everything. My dad always was like, ‘Let me do it. Watch how we do this. Here’s how we’re gonna solve this.’”

“I definitely appreciate getting some of that from him. Little things too, I don’t know. Probably annoying things too that I’ve gotten from him but we’re very much alike,” he added. “Ward is gonna be just like me, just very stubborn. Stubborn workaholics.”

Speaking of being workaholics, it’s clear that Lady Antebellum has worked hard to get to where they are today. Although the group, which also features Hillary Scott and Dave Haywood, has earned many awards and accolades, their fame was no overnight success. And, while Kelley and his bandmates all have small children that are being raised in celebrity households, he hopes his firstborn will stay grounded.

“I think that our kids have no understanding that this is a very unique upbringing. I mean my son, I think he asked like a cousin, ‘What color tour bus does your daddy have?’ It’s like, ‘Ward!’ I mean he’s only three. But it really is funny it’s such a unique thing you know and he’s constantly traveling,” Kelley said. “So it’s gonna be a constant struggle to make sure they realize that this is a unique thing, and to have a perspective and appreciate what it all means.”

With Ward on the road, it’s quite possible that Kelley’s musical influence could rub off on the youngster. Charles and his wife Cassie often share photos and videos featuring Ward singing or playing musical instruments. Judging by the short clips, Ward seems to show some promise in the musical arena, but it’s tough to know for sure since he’s still very young.

Lady Antebellum is currently working on their next album, which they expect to release in the coming months. The upcoming project will include the band’s latest single, “What If I Never Get Over You.”
