Fans have been giving Lainey Wilson a lot of love on her latest single, “Watermelon Moonshine.” The tune has even been dubbed the modern-day version of Deana Carter’s iconic “Strawberry Wine” for its familiar narrative and dreamy melodies.

After these comments came to light, Wilson decided to try her hand at the country classic and took to TikTok to share a stunning a cappella mashup of the two songs.

“Strawberry wine and seventeen / The hot July moon saw everything / My first taste of love, whoa-oh bittersweet / And green on the vine / Like strawberry wine,” she sang before merging in her own “Watermelon Moonshine.” “Drinkin’ watermelon moonshine / We cut the burn with a little lime / Parkin’ back in them kudzu vines / I was his and every bit of that boy was mine
Too young to know what love was / But we were learnin’ on a sweet buzz / There’s never nothin’ like the first time / And mine’s always gonna taste like / Watermelon moonshine.”

This cover got the attention of Carter herself who revealed she got “overwhelming requests” for her to follow up Wilson’s video with her own rendition of the mixed tunes. Before singing the stunning mashup, she also took a moment to shout out Wilson and express her pride for the rising superstar.

Carter’s caption read, “SO proud of my girl @laineywilsonmusic & per request I am returning the #songswap with all the love in my heart!”

In a third video, Wilson shared her reaction to Carter’s heartfelt response and called the ‘90s country star her “soul sister.” As Carter began to strum her guitar and deliver the first set of lyrics to “Watermelon Moonshine,” Wilson quickly joined with her iconic Louisiana vocals and created the unmatched duet that fans have been longing for.

“Thank you for your influence, you the queen,” Wilson said in the video as she gushed about her fellow female songstress. “Beautiful inside and out. That is Deana Carter for you right there, y’all. One of the most beautiful people I have ever met. Loves people, loves the lord.”

After hearing just how effortless these country stars sound together, fans are eagerly calling for them to record an official duet.

“Yes, definitely needs to be a duet!!!!😁 Both are great songs!!!” one user wrote while another said, “We NEED this duet more than anything!! 😍😍”

Co-written by Wilson alongside Jordan Schmidt and Josh Kear,  “Watermelon Moonshine” appears on Wilson’s sophomore album, Bell Bottom Country

The sentimental story of her nostalgic ballad came to life in a recently-released cinematic music video. Directed by Stephen and Alexa Kinigopoulos, the clip features a flawless portrayal of all the raw emotions that come with the innocence of young love.

Rachel Lynn Matthews plays the love-struck character who can’t help but reminisce about her history with Sam Sherrod, the boy who stole her heart.

“I’m so excited to premiere the ‘Watermelon Moonshine’ music video. This song is about the young, wild, crazy love that we all hope to experience,” Wilson shared in past a statement. “From locking eyes for the first time, to playing spin the bottle with an Ole Smoky mason jar, to being too crazy about each other to tame it, I am so happy with how Rachel Lynn Matthews and Sam Sherrod brought the vision to life through their portrayal of their innocently passionate characters.”
