Lainey Wilson is one of country music’s biggest stars. With multiple chart-topping singles, 16 ACM Awards, 9 CMA Awards, and a Grammy to her name, she’s now headlining the biggest tour of her career and preparing to make her big-screen debut.

But despite her skyrocketing success, Wilson hasn’t forgotten her roots. That was clear over the weekend when she spotted a familiar face in the crowd at one of her shows. From the stage, she took a moment to acknowledge the fan before stepping down to share a heartfelt hug that brought the woman to tears.

“How far did you drive to get here,” Wilson asked when she spotted her day-one fan in the front row.

“You didn’t drive. Did you fly? Lord have mercy. It is good to see you,” the country star told her.

Taking a moment to explain their history to the crowd, Wilson shared, “Y’all. We go back. I’m not even playing. My friend down here in the front, we go way back to how many years ago was that? Like a long time. It feels like six. Aslan said six. You were literally there when nobody was there. I’m not even playing. You were there.”

Without hesitation, Wilson got up from her seat on the stage and made her way to the front row, telling the fan, “Let’s just take a second. I’m going to come hug your neck. First of all, I mean from the beginning, girl. Remember when we played that casino and literally nobody was there. It was just you on the front row by the barricade and I was like, my girl’s here. I love you. Thank you.”

The moment was captured on video and later shared to Wilson’s Instagram. She captioned the post: “Nothing makes my night more than seeing a familiar face in the crowd. It’s been quite a ride hasn’t it?! Thanks for hangin on tight with me.”

Comments flooded the post, and several of Wilson’s friends and fellow country stars took a moment to praise her for always being so real.

Ashley Cooke wrote, “This is why you’re simply the greatest. Superstar,” while Kolby Cooper simply shared, “The best.”

This special moment took place amid Wilson’s Whirlwind Tour, which is set to continue this week in Nashville, TN (Oct. 2), Noblesville, IN (Oct. 3), and Cuyahoga Falls, OH (Oct. 4).

Lainey Wilson is currently nominated for six CMA Awards at the upcoming 59th Annual CMA Awards, including the night’s top honor, Entertainer of the Year.
