Lainey Wilson To Deliver ‘Iconic’ Performance At 2024 People’s Choice Awards

Lainey Wilson has been tapped to perform at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards on Sunday, Feb. 18. The show, hosted by actor Simu Liu, will take place at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA.
The announcement on Instagram read, “This year Lainey Wilson will be hitting the stage at the People’s Choice Awards! 🎶 Don’t miss this iconic performance.”
In addition to the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer, Billboard reports that Australian singer/songwriter Kylie Minogue and 2024 Music Icon Award recipient Lenny Kravitz will also take the stage. The night’s other leading guest is famed comedian/actor Adam Sandler, who will receive the People’s Icon Award.
The Award Show Introduces Two New Country Music Categories
Wilson is heading into the annual show with two nominations in the categories of Female Artist of the Year and Female Country Artist of the Year. This will mark the first year that the all-genre People’s Choice Awards has expanded their nomination categories to include two dedicated to country music – Female Country Artist and Male Country Artist of the Year.
Nominees for The Male Country Artist of the Year award include Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson, HARDY, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen, and Zach Bryan.
Joining Wilson in the Female Country Artist of the Year category are Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Carrie Underwood, Gabby Barrett, Kelsea Ballerini, Megan Moroney and Shania Twain.
The Nominations Continue
Meanwhile, several of these country stars, and more, also appear in some of the all-genre categories for 2024.
Wallen and Combs are both vying for Male Artist of the Year, Song of the Year with “Last Night” and “Fast Car,” Album of the Year with Gettin’ Old and One Thing At A Time, and Concert Tour of the Year.
Jelly Roll is also up for New Artist of the Year while Old Dominion and Dan + Shay are in the running for Group/Duo of the Year and Zach Bryan is a nominee in the Collaboration of the Year category alongside Kacey Musgraves for their GRAMMY-winning hit, “I Remember Everything.”
The People’s Choice Awards are produced by Den of Thieves. Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski will executive produce.
The annual event airs live on Sunday, Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC, Peacock and E! from Santa Monica’s 35,000-square-foot Barker Hangar venue.
Second Annual People’s Choice Country Awards Confirmed
Prior to this announcement, NBC confirmed the People’s Choice Country Awards will return for its second consecutive year on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024. The country-spin off first made its way to Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry in September 2023 with hosts Little Big Town.
The two-hour show will once again air live from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville at 8 p.m. ET/PT across NBC and Peacock.
“With powerhouse performances, heartfelt tributes to country legends, and surprise moments, last year’s inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards was a huge success” Jen Neal, executive vice president, live events and specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement. “We look forward to returning to the Grand Ole Opry House in 2024 to honor and celebrate the country community.”
A Look Back At The Inaugural Awards Show
The 2023 awards ceremony featured performances by Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, Dan + Shay, HARDY, Jelly Roll, Kane Brown, Kelsea Ballerini, Little Big Town, Toby Keith, Wynonna Judd and more.
During the show, awards for 12 categories were given out, including People’s Artist of 2023, Male Artist of 2023, Female Artist of 2023, Group/Duo of 2023, New Artist of 2023, Social Country Star of 2023, Song of 2023, Collaboration Song of 2023, Crossover Song of 2023, Album of 2023, Music Video of 2023 and Concert Tour of 2023.
Jelly Roll was the top winner of the night as he walked away, with six awards in four categories. Meanwhile, Morgan Wallen and Lainey Wilson each won three awards. Additionally, Wynonna Judd and late country star Toby Keith were honored as the first-ever Icon Awards recipients of the People’s Choice Country Awards.
