Lauren Alaina’s latest duet with Chase Matthew, “All My Exes,” has made major waves since its release in May of 2025, even recently climbing into the Top 5 at country radio. However, the collaboration could have sounded very different, as Alaina reveals that she first thought of Morgan Wallen for her duet partner.
While serving as a co-host on Country Countdown USA with Lon Helton this weekend, the songstress opened up about why Wallen initially seemed like a natural choice since they were on the same record label. However, Alaina ultimately decided she didn’t want the song’s success to be defined solely by the star power behind Wallen’s name.
“Morgan is putting out so much music, and is such a big star, I didn’t want to have a hit just because of Morgan Wallen. I’ve never shared that story before,” she explained.

Alaina co-wrote the track with Ben Johnson, Whitney Phillips, and Jimmy Gutch, long before she was happily married and a mom to her daughter Beni Doll. Her husband, Cam Arnold, was a major champion of “All My Exes” right from the start and he even played a role in getting the song into Chase Matthew’s hands.
After meeting Matthew on tour with Jason Aldean, Arnold felt like the rising star would make the perfect addition to the song. So he made sure Matthew heard it. It turns out that Arnold was right on track with his choice because the song debuted with the biggest first-week streaming numbers of Lauren Alaina’s career. It was also the No.1 most-added song at country radio upon release.
The “Those Kind Of Women” singer shared another fun fact about the song, pointing out that in the music video, she was pregnant with her first child and “no one knew.” In order to hide the fact that her baby bump was already showing, they intentionally made sure the country stars were only filmed from the chest up as they go between singing in a bar setting to the back of a car.
“That’s why I’m seated the whole video behind a table. We’re hiding my baby bump,” said Alaina. “I was like, how are we gonna make this make sense singing about my exes, while I have this very round baby belly poking out. So we got creative.”
Now, with “All My Exes” continuing to climb the country radio charts, the song has gone on to become a standout moment for both Lauren Alaina and Chase Matthew.
