Jon Pardi’s “Reverse Cowgirl” was apparently in high demand as a demo, but he hasn’t let it go since putting it on hold in 2020 and now, he’s finally getting the chance to share it with the world with the release of his new album, Mr. Saturday Night.
Turns out, if he had cut ties with the song, Jake Owen or Chase Rice would have snatched it up immediately.
“Jake Owen made sure he called every three months until he knew I recorded that song. He’s like, ‘well, if you don’t want it, you know I want that song!’” Pardi explained during an interview with Audacy’s Katie & Company. “Chase Rice, he texts me like, ‘Dude, did you record ‘Reverse Cowgirl’ yet? I cannot wait!’ He’s like, ‘I’ve never had a demo for so long and been so anticipated’”
Now that his much-anticipated new album, Mr. Saturday Night, has been released, fans will be able to hear and understand why the “Last Night Lonely” singer loves the track so much. Despite its suggestive title, the song co-written by Zack Dyer, Joe Fox and Jared Scott, actually holds a pretty meaningful storyline with its somber lyrics that will likely evoke a few tears.
“It’s a sad song! The guy wants his cowgirl to come back,” Pardi continued. “Now, it may have a little twist in there, and it’s for your mind to think about. It’s the best, dirtiest, cleanest thing you can have…It’s got a funny, humorous twist to it, but it’s also really pretty and really romantic in a way. When I first heard it [in 2020] I was like, ‘Man, there ain’t no way! There ain’t no way! [Then], the whole world went through some s***.”
Even Pardi’s wife, Summer has taken a strong interest in this song.
“She likes all kinds of different things, but when she first heard ‘Reverse Cowgirl,’ she’s like, ‘I love this song’ and then kept singing it over and over and over,” he told Country Now and other media outlets.
The California native released a few fan-favorite singles ahead of the album, including the chart-topping “Last Night Lonely,” “Fill ‘Er Up,” and the title track, but he’s even more excited for fans to hear the rest of the album.
He recently revealed that because of the surplus of songs they have compiled, there’s a deluxe edition on the horizon and he’s nothing short of excited to share it.
“We recorded so many songs, because there’s going to be a deluxe. It was fun. We really wanted to dig into some stuff that was more personal — bringing me and Summer into this.”
Jon Pardi is currently on the road for his Ain’t Always The Cowboy Tour and he has an all-female lineup of special guests. Lainey Wilson and Hailey Whitters have joined the country superstar on this current stint of shows and Pardi shared has been smooth sailing so far.
“It feels like we’re just three friends hanging out, then they go out and kill it. It’s a good music tour,” he said.
The three country stars will next head to Rochester, MN on Sept. 8.
