Shortly after announcing the new album, Little Big Town released “Rich Man,” a brand-new track from the project. The ballad was written by the band’s Jimi Westbrook and centers around the important things in life, like love and family.
“‘Rich Man’ has a special place in my heart, and it feels like the most honest me song I’ve ever written,” Westbrook shares. “It is about my love of family and their role in laying the foundation that anchors me.
With the pandemic and hardships that came in 2020, the members of Little Big Town had their first break from being out on the road in the 20 years they have been together. Taking the time to appreciate the steadiness and allowance of creativity, the group found themselves inspired, thus came about the self-produced Mr. Sun.
“Mr. Sun is intentionally an emotional record that holds hands well with our last album Nightfall,” shares Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild. “Mr. Sun is focused on better days ahead, the value of friendships and family; it touches on heartbreak and letting go, but it’s full of sunshine and joy.”
“This album has a special feeling to it. We have collectively been through an unprecedented period making this album,” adds Phillip Sweet. “Life is short; we are here to live it with the ones around us, loving them and ourselves the best we can. All the while, thankful for another turn around the sun.”
With a member of the band writing or co-writing 13 of the 16 tracks, the group has been forming relationships near and far; The project consists of 33 songwriters – ranging from 3 countries and 20 different states.
These songwriting relationships span from 20-year friendships to first-time connections, resulting in an album beaming with color across the entire spectrum.
