ABC’s American Idol returned on Sunday evening (March 4) with an exciting round of celebrity duets, featuring a number of superstar artists including Brian McKnight, Ryan Tedder and Jewel.

Top 24 contestant Alyssa Wray took the stage with a cover of Carrie Underwood‘s GRAMMY-award winning single “Something In The Water” during her solo performance, earning praise from each of the Idol judges: Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

“Something In The Water” appears on Underwood’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1. The song released as the album’s lead single in 2014, earning the country superstar her 14th career No. 1.

Later in the show, Wray performed a duet alongside Idol alum Katharine McPhee. The judges couldn’t help but to gush over their duet.

“Watching you perform is like watching someone trying to keep a cap on a volcano,” Richie shared.

“I think you’re the first singer that really held your own on stage with the other star,” Perry added.

Bryan was equally impressed.

“You’re giving me and all the judges just star sparkle,” Bryan told her. “I mean, I watched you onstage with a star be your own star and it was awesome. I loved it!”
