A popular new TikTok video is bringing Luke Combs’ “Huntin’ By Yourself” to life, as it shows the song’s heartfelt narrative come to life in a real father-son moment.
The video, shared by TikTok creator Olivia Plekker, opens with her 3.5-year-old son bundled up in his camo attire, helping her pack what he thinks are just a few snacks for his dad’s hunting trip. What he doesn’t realize, though, is that a big surprise is waiting for him just moments later.

Viewers hearts melted as soon as they heard the young boy say, “I’m gonna miss daddy.” With a bit of somberness in his voice, he walks over to the door to bring his dad his pre-packed snacks.
In the next moment, his dad points out, “Well, I’m not gonna be able to eat all this by myself,” which which leaves the boy looking confused and concerned. Then, in the next moment, his dad explains that while he won’t be able to finish the snacks on his own, he won’t have to because he’ll be sharing the food with the boy he’s inviting to join him on that day’s hunt.
The little boy’s expression instantly changed, lighting up as he jumped for joy, realizing he was about to spend some quality time with his dad. “Thanks, Daddy,” he exclaimed over and over, wrapping him in a heartfelt hug that once again made for a tearful moment.

This tear-jerking video has since racked up over 9 million views and more than 16k comments of fans gushing over the massive impact that such a small gesture made for the young boy.
The moment is set to Combs nostalgic country ballad that appears on 2024’s Fathers & Sons project. Penned by the country star with Ray Fulcher, Alex Palmer, Michael Tyler and Thomas Archer, “Huntin’ By Yourself” offers a powerful story about fatherhood and cherishing fleeting moments with your child. It’s sung from the perspective of a dad who decides to take his young son hunting and ends up loving every minute of their time together, regardless of if it’s a successful hunting trip or not.

As the verses unfold, the song shifts from the present to the future as the father describes watching the boy grow up, get his own truck, and chase girls instead of deer. The dad quickly realizes that he’s back to hunting alone, offering a reminder of how fast time passes.
TikTok user Olivia explained to Country Now that she chose to use this tender tune because of how much she and her family are able to relate to its narrative.
“This song is special to me and my husband because while I grew up hunting at a young age, my husband didn’t. I know he’s had so much fun learning to hunt as an adult and has been waiting for the moment he could take his kids,” she shared.

In a follow-up video, Olivia asked her son how his first-ever hunt went. While they didn’t see any deer, the little boy insisted it was still “great,” and was clearly thrilled to get to spend quality time with his dad. He shared that the day included coloring, waiting, and enjoying their snacks together.
This is exactly the kind of moment Luke Combs captures in his songs, the little things that make fatherhood so special.
