Maren Morris and John Mayer joined forces with John Mayer for a stunning performance of “The Bones” at the 2021 GRAMMYs on Sunday, March 14. The superstar pair didn’t disappoint with the perfect showcase of Morris’ chart-topping hit.
“I’m performing my song ‘The Bones,’ which is nominated for Best Country Song and it’s been a couple years since i’ve performed on the GRAMMYs stage and so I’m just really happy to be back,” Morris said ahead of her performance. “I’m so happy they’re doing it safely in person and it just feels like a real show and so i’m very excited to be a part of it.”
Morris won her first GRAMMY at the 59th annual GRAMMY awards in 2017. The singer is up for Best Country Song with her single “The Bones” at the 63rd GRAMMYs.
“I found out I was nominated and was listening because it was on Twitter, so it was on bluetooth through my car speakers because I was driving on my way to somewhere in Nashville and they were announcing the country song category and I heard my name and ‘The Bones,’” Morris explained. “It’s just really special to me because country song is songwriters that are awarded and nominated and to be nominated at the GRAMMYs for a song like ‘The Bones,’ which I wrote years ago and it’s taken on such a bigger meaning… And I think that it just marks the end of a really beautiful journey I’ve taken with ‘The Bones,’ and to share it this way on the GRAMMYs stage as well as it being nominated just feels wonderful.”
The 63rd Annual GRAMMY Awards also featured performances from Bad Bunny, Miranda Lambert, Black Pumas, Cardi B, BTS, Brandi Carlile, DaBaby, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, HAIM, Brittany Howard, Lil Baby, Mickey Guyton, Dua Lipa, Chris Martin, John Mayer, Megan Thee Stallion, Post Malone, Roddy Ricch, Harry Styles, and Taylor Swift.
Hosted by Trevor Noah, “Music’s Biggest Night” aired on Sunday, March 14 at 8:00 p.m. ET on CBS Television Network and also available to stream live and on demand on Paramount+.
