Megan Moroney Shares How Her Dog Boots Got His Name and Talks Life as a Dog Mom

Megan Moroney first introduced her new puppy Boots to the world in February 2026. Since then, she has gained her own fan base through adorable social media posts that show her life on the road with Moroney throughout the Cloud 9 Tour. The songstress recently joined Audacy’s Katie Neal to talk about becoming a dog mom and how she decided on a name for the brunette pup.

When Moroney decided she was ready to bring a dog in her life, she knew it had to be one that could fit in with the rigorous travel schedule. Luckily, Boots fit exactly what she was looking for.

“I actually kind of told the girl that, ‘if this is the dog that I’m going to get, this is a lifestyle that the dog will need to be used to.’ So I got her trained actually before I got her. And I was like, ‘If her personality is showing signs of not being down for that and stuff, I’ll wait for another one.’ But she turned out to be very social and yeah, she’s just down,” the Georgia native explained.

The next step in the process was to pick out the perfect name for her new four-legged companion. She says she was originally deciding between two different names: Lorraine and Boots.

“I felt like I needed to see her to be able to name her, like a child. And I was in between Boots or Lorraine because of my song ‘Waiting on the Rain,’ It sounds like I say ‘Lorraine.’ I always liked the name Lorraine since I wrote that song. But when I saw that her back feet were white, like my cowgirl boots on stage, I was like, oh, she just looks like a Boots.”

For those who don’t know, the dog’s full name is Boots Withefer, also pronounced Boots With The Fur, in reference to the famous lyric from Flo Rida’s 2007 hit song, “Low.” Given Moroney’s knack for clever wordplay in her songwriting, it only felt right that her dog’s name would be just as witty.

“It sounds like distinguished, like Boots Withefer. She’s a classy girl, but it’s really, ‘Shawty had them apple bottom jeans,” Moroney joked. “I though about Boots E. Wootsy as the middle name, but we landed on Boots Withefer.”

Boots has also developed a slew of nicknames including Booty, Scooty, Wooty, Booter, Scooter and has even shown to have a few things in common with Moroney like being a picky eater.

“I guess this is a Megan trait. She’s not very food motivated, but if you deprive her of any sort of love or attention, that’s how to get her to behave…she’s the best.”

In addition to her furry companion, the “Medicine” singer reveals a few other essentials needed to get her through her massive Cloud 9 arena tour.

“I will say a lot of matching sets. I love a matching set. My bus is just stocked full…matching sets, some cool shoes. I have a humidifier in my room. I have my vocal mist that I do. I’m very routine oriented on this tour. I eat down to every 15 minutes I have something to do. My day is planned out that way.”

Moroney shares that her diet consists of a rotation of three different meals, salmon, chicken and steak, each paired with a side of sweet potatoes and green beans.

“I eat at 3:15 every day because that heavy of a meal I can’t eat before, so I need it to digest. And then at 6 PM I have a protein shake. And then what else could I not live without? Oh, Pilates by Izzy,” she adds.

Megan Moroney has a lot on her plate right now as she continues making her way from city to city until the tour wraps up in October, but luckily she has Boots to keep her company through it all.
