Miranda Lambert may not be a cowboy, but she certainly stepped into the role for her performance at the 2022 CMT Music Awards.

Donning a pink Stetson with a pair of boots and a lime-green fringe jacket, the Texas-born star entertained an outdoor crowd with her latest hit, “If I Was a Cowboy,” on Nashville’s Lower Broadway strip.

The performance, which aired on CBS on Monday (April 11), had Lambert strumming on her guitar while backed by a full band. She kept her focus on the audience from center stage as they sang along to the catchy tune, which appears on Lambert’s new studio album Palomino, slated for release on April 29.

Earlier in the evening, Lambert walked the red “pink” carpet in a glittery blue mini dress alongside her husband, Brendan McLoughlin. She also celebrated her win for Female Video of the Year – a trophy she won for her video for “If I Was a Cowboy.”

Lambert was in the running for the prize against heavyweights Brandi Carlile, Gabby Barrett, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, Mickey Guyton, and Tenille Arts.

“I’m just so damn happy to be here,” Lambert told the audience as she held her award. “I’m so happy to be part of the women of country music today. We are really starting to kick some ass!” The “Bluebird” singer then thanked the video director, Trey Fanjoy, who has been directing “pretty much” all of her music videos for the past two decades.

“Trey, this one’s for you. We are cowboys, and we are going to continue to be,” Lambert added as she ended her acceptance speech.

Miranda Lambert is currently on the road and will perform a string of shows on The Bandwagon Tour before she sets up her headlining Las Vegas residency “The Velvet Rodeo,” which runs from September 23 through early 2023.

Walker Hayes, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Old Dominion,  and Carly Pearce were among some of the performers who took the stage at the 2022 CMT Music Awards. Jason Aldean and Bryan Adams, Jimmie Allen with Monica and Little Big Town, Guyton and Black Pumas, Thomas Rhett and Riley Green, and Cole Swindell and Lainey Wilson also shared the stage for never before seen collaborations.

The 2022 fan-voted CMT Music Awards, hosted by Kelsea Ballerini, Kane Brown, and Anthony Mackie, aired live on Monday (April 11) on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET. The show was also available to stream live and on-demand on Paramount+.
