Morgan Wallen was the top winner for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards, securing an impressive total of 11 victories.
Did Morgan Wallen Win Any Billboard Awards?
The East Tennessee native was named Top Male Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Country Artist, Top Country Male Artist, and Top Country Touring Artist. Additionally, his album, One Thing At A Time, earned the title of Top Billboard 200 Album and Top Country Album. Wallen’s wildly successful track, “Last Night,” was named Top Hot 100 Song, Top Streaming Song, and Top Country Song.
Wallen, who earned more trophies for the 2023 Billboard Music Awards than Taylor Swift, performed his fan-favorite track ”’98 Braves” in honor of the occasion and accepted the 11 trophies from Truist Park, the home of the Atlanta Braves. ‘98 Braves pitchers, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz, were on hand to present Wallen with the honors.
“Like the song says, “You win some, you lose some,” Wallen joked.
Likely in reference to the recent CMA Awards, where he didn’t win a single award, the singer/songwriter said, “The last awards show I went to, we went home empty-handed. This one, I don’t have enough hands for them all.”
Promises To Never Let Awards Define Him
With his 11 new trophies beside him, Wallen vowed to never let awards define him.
“So either way, I promise I’m gonna stay the same regardless if we come home with 10 or zero. I’m gonna give y’all my all every single night, every single time I go into the studio,” he shared with fans, adding, “So thank you … All of these awards are really just, it’s for my fans, man. So thank you guys so much.”
In closing, Wallen stated, “You took a boy from East Tennessee driving a two-door Toyota Tacoma and turned me into one of Billboard’s top artists. So, thank you.”
This Billboard Music Awards performance was a special one because Wallen had the opportunity to sing “‘98 Braves” in front of several players from the 1998 Braves while at Truist Park. It was recorded while Wallen was visiting the famed ballpark as part of his One Night At A Time World Tour.
What Is The Song “’98 Braves” About?
“‘98 Braves” appears on Wallen’s One Thing At A Time and compares a love story to the 1998 Atlana Braves season when the team famously finished the season with 106 wins, according to Sports Illustrated. During the postseason, however, the Braves wound up losing to the San Diego Padres.
“I remember sittin’ at that house, livin’ room couch/ Thinkin’ no way them boys wouldn’t win/ Between them big three pitchers, Andruw and Chipper/ It was gonna be hard to keep up with the Jones’s/ But as fate would have it, that Atlanta magic/ Got put out by them damn Padres/ I guess destiny ain’t always meant to be/ Kinda like you and me that day,” Wallen sings on the first verse.
The 2023 Billboard Music Awards also featured performances by Tate McRae, David Guetta, Bebe Rexha, Karol G, NewJeans, Mariah Carey, Peso Pluma, and Stray Kids.
Other top winners included Taylor Swift, who took home 10 trophies. The international superstar now has a whopping 39 Billboard Music Awards trophies to her name. Drake, SZA, Zach Bryan, 21 Savage, Bad Bunny, Beyonce, and Miley Cyrus also took home multiple wins.
