Nashville celebrated the premiere of Love, Tom, a new documentary profiling the life of songwriter Tom Douglas this Tuesday (Feb. 15).

The documentary premiered at Regal Green Hills Theater. Douglas attended the premiere along with country singer Tim McGraw, and they participated in a question-and-answer session following the screening.

“There’s been plenty of songs in my career – and most of them you have written – that I don’t really even feel like it’s my song. I feel like I’m just the vessel that it comes through, and the song’s really for everyone else. As a songwriter and a singer, that’s what you try to do. You try to open up a door for people to walk through and express themselves,” McGraw shared during the Q&A portion.

Faith Hill, Kelsea Ballerini and Morgan Evans also attended the premiere.

The documentary was inspired by a 12-minute speech Douglas gave back in 2014 at the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame, CMT reported. Tom Douglas, Tommy Douglas, Austin Fish, Jason Owen and Michael Lennox served as executive producers on the film.

The documentary also shared personal anecdotes from Douglas about the stories behind the songs he’s written, according to CMT. Included in his writing credits are Lady A’s “I Run To You,” McGraw’s “Grown Men Don’t Cry” and Miranda Lambert’s “The House That Built Me.”

Douglas shared the trailer for Love, Tom on his Instagram in January.

“So proud to share this trailer with everyone,” Douglas wrote. “Love, Tom will be streaming on Paramount + February 24. Love, Tom @paramountplus #paramountplus #lovetom”

News broke that, in addition to the documentary, Douglas would release a 10-track companion album via Monument Records. Artists including Lambert, McGraw and Chris Janson have been tapped to join him on the project.

“Van Gogh,” the first song from the album was released on January 28.

“Excited for the world to hear this project!” read a post on the Love, Tom official Instagram. “@tomdouglasmusic and @monument.records are set to release Love, Tom, a full soundtrack inspired by the motion picture – available 2/24! The first track from the album, ‘Van Gogh,’ released today! Link to listen on our story [music note emoji]”

Douglas also shared a post about the song to his Instagram. Douglas said he wrote the song with Allen Shamblin. The song is “about the struggle in creating and the beauty that is revealed within the pain.” In addition, Douglas advised his followers to “keep creating.”

Douglas is a Grammy-winning songwriter who has enjoyed a 30-year career. Besides his Grammy wins, Douglas has also received Oscar and Golden Globes nominations for his involvement in the 2010 film Country Strong.

Love, Tom is streaming exclusively on Paramount + on February 24.
