Brooks & Dunn

On February 24, 1992, Brooks & Dunn released “Neon Moon.” The song served as the third single from their debut album, Brand New Man, and went on to become an iconic country music hit.

“Neon Moon” was written by Ronnie Dunn and became the duo’s third single in a row to hit No. 1 on the country charts. The track was also the first single Brooks & Dunn released without an accompanying music video.

“Neon Moon” reached No. 1 on the Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, and finished No. 9 on the year-end chart. It peaked at No. 1 on the Canada Country Tracks chart as well.

A true country heartbreak song, “Neon Moon” tells the story of a brokenhearted man who turns to the bar scene to drown his sorrows.

Brooks & Dunn re-recorded the song with fellow country star Kacey Musgraves as part of the duo’s wildly popular Reboot album, which was released in 2019.

The idea to team up with Musgraves came after Brooks & Dunn learned she was already covering the song during her live shows.

“Kacey [was] doing “Neon Moon” in her show,” Kix Brooks explained to The Boot in 2019. “Ronnie sends me a copy. He goes, ‘Hey, check this out.’”

“It almost had an EDM slant to it. You think, you can play that for a hillbilly singer and writer and that’s not gonna fly,” Ronnie Dunn added, “and I think it’s awesome.”

Brooks & Dunn’s Reboot also includes features with country artists such as Kane Brown, Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde, Brett Young and more.
