Carrie Underwood; Blown Away

On July 9, 2012, Carrie Underwood released one of the biggest hits of her career, “Blown Away.”

Written by Chris Tompkins and Josh Kear, “Blown Away” was the second single from the superstar’s fourth studio album of the same name. The song tells the chilling story of a young girl who locks herself in a cellar as her alcoholic father remains passed out on the couch upstairs as a tornado ravages through their home.

“She heard those sirens screaming out/ Her daddy laid there passed out on the couch/ She locked herself in the cellar/ Listened to the screaming of the wind/ Some people called it taking shelter/ She called it sweet revenge,” Underwood sings on the second verse.

“Blown Away” went on to become Underwood’s 13th chart-topping hit.

Following the release of the song, Underwood debuted a cinematic, Wizard Of Oz-inspired music video to accompany the soaring track.

The clip brings the song’s storyline to life and features several nods to the iconic film, such as a plaid shirt, a tiny dog and red shoes.
