It was exactly one year ago when Laine Hardy and Laci Kaye Booth joined forces on American Idol for an incredible performance of the iconic Johnny Cash and June Carter duet, “Jackson.”

The Idol contestants were paired together and asked to sing the duet version of “Jackson” from the movie Walk The Line. Hardy and Booth stepped up to the challenge and delivered a memorable performance that had fans and judges mesmerized.

The judges, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, each offered the pair a standing ovation at the conclusion of the song and couldn’t help but gush over the collab.

“Perfect song, perfect look, perfect attitude,” Richie shared. “Both of you looked so darn comfortable. It’s unbelievable. I loved the performance and I think America will love it too. Fantastic!”

“I’ve never seen you smile that large, Laine,” Perry quipped.

“I’d be wondering if something else…,” she went on to say.

Bryan had nothing but great things to say as well, telling the pair, “I’m enjoying watching you guys grow and become stars.”

Stars is exactly what they would become. Hardy went home to win the competition and Booth placed within the Top 5.
