Thomas Rhett – Die a Happy Man Music Video

In 2015, Thomas Rhett released the love song of the year with “Die A Happy Man,” the second single off of his sophomore album, Tangled Up.

When writing the songs for the album, Rhett came to a realization: “I’ve never just written a song about my wife or for my wife.” He explained that “every single line in the song is directly personal to our relationship and our marriage. I think my fans looked at that and saw it as very genuine, which it was, and I think that’s the reason it was so successful. It was one of the most fun songs I ever got to write.”

“Die A Happy Man,” which was co-written by Rhett alongside Sean Douglas and Joe Spargur, took the top spot on the Hot Country Songs chart on November 14, 2015 and remained at No.1 for 17 weeks.

Rhett’s emotional track rose to the top of the Country Airplay chart as well, making it the first song to hold the No.1 spot for six weeks since Taylor Swift’s “Our Song.”

“I seriously can’t believe this song has spent six weeks at No.1,” Rhett said at the time. “When you put a song out there as personal as this, you hope it connects and resonates with people. But I could never have imagined it would connect like this! And to mirror an achievement not seen since Taylor Swift – someone I really respect as a songwriter, performer and entertainer – is just mind-blowing.”

As of October 9, 2019, “Die a Happy Man” is certified 6x platinum for certified units in excess of 6 million.

Rhett also took home several awards for the song. “Die a Happy Man” won at the Billboard Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, CMA Awards, and American Country Countdown Awards. The song was also nominated for a Grammy for Best Country Song of the Year.

The music video for ‘Die a Happy Man’ was recorded in Hawaii and premiered in June of 2015. The clip features Rhett alongside his wife, Lauren Akins. Rhett and Akins, who have known each other since first grade, have gone on to become one of country music’s most beloved couples and are often referred to as “relationship goals.”
