Riley Green had yet another tough decision to make this week on The Voice as two members of his team, Allie Rae and Harmony McKee fought to keep their spot in the competition during The Battle Rounds.

On Monday night (Oct. 19), Allie, 15, and Harmony, 19, made their mark with an unforgettable duet of Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine.” The two singers exchanged a quick handshake for good luck before taking their places on opposite sides of the stage, ready to show the coaches what they could do.

Allie kicked things off with her distinctive vocals on the opening verse, immediately earning nods of approval from Coach Kelly Clarkson. Then Harmony lit up her mic, wasting no time making her presence known. Together, they put their own spin on the classic tune while blending their distinct sounds into a performance that showcased both of their strengths.

Allie brought a softer, more tender country sound that stayed true to her Texas roots, while Harmony delivered a grittier, hard-hitting vocal that added a powerful contrast to the duet.

The pair closed out the song with a string of stunning harmonies that commanded the stage. They could be heard expressing how proud they were of one another before letting the judges give their thoughts.

Clarkson jumped in first, making sure to share how both of the rising acts impressed her.

“Harmony, your voice. It fills the room. It’s enormous. You’re the most beautiful resonance. It’s such a beautiful gift you have.”

She then turned to Allie and stated, “You are 15 years old. You have a really rad style…that walk, she came right up to the farthest place she could get to the edge of the stage. I love that,” Clarkson admitted before adding, “I would maybe lean a little towards Allie Rae.”

Coach Adam Levine recalled turning for Harmony in the blind auditions, but joked that he must have had a “temporary brain meltdown” when Allie performed, causing him not to turn his chair for her. He went on to say that this decision is never easy especially when the two voices competition against each other are so different, in the best way.

“It is a competition and I would have to actually pick somebody. So I’m going to go with Allie Rae here, but you’re both great.”

Queen Latifah had nothing but praise for both contestants. She particularly called out Allie Rae’s high notes and complimented Harmony on holding the longer notes and jokingly shared that she thought to herself, “Where’s the breath in there?”

Green admitted he was “not surprised in the slightest” that both Allie and Harmony did amazing on stage and noted this was one battle round he was really looking forward to after seeing the performance come together in rehearsals. At the same time, however, he has also been dreading this moment, knowing that he would have to send one very talented artist home.

“Allie Rae, you’re a huge talent for any age, but I think that there’s something so interesting about your voice and how you present certain notes and how you pocket things. I think you’ve got a really great future. And Harmony, one of the most talented vocalists on the show, completely filled the room with everything you did. It was an awesome performance. I also want to say thank you because I feel like even though you’re not much older than Allie Rae, I felt like a big sister vibe in rehearsals and I think that’s so cool. I mean, that’s my favorite thing about y’all, how y’all really attach to each other.”

Harmony chined in to say, “She’s the best” about her duet partner.

The country superstar went on to say that this battle was “completely neck and neck” for him.

“There were moments where you shined. There was moments where you shine. Y’all both did great.”

In the end he ultimately chose Allie Rae to continue on his team in the competition, sending her through to Cut Week.

“Allie Rae and Harmony was one of my favorite battles. I thought they did a great job complimenting each other. I had to go with Allie Rae because she’s who I used my first in on, I believed in her from the get go, and I think she’s got a really great chance to go a long way in the show,” Green explained.

The competition continues to heat up next Monday night when The Voice returns with another set of Battles, airing on NBC at 8/7c and next day on Peacock.
