Riley Green opened up about his ideal date night, his most romantic gesture and whether he sees himself settling down and having kids one day during a conversation with PEOPLE for its Sexiest Man Alive issue.

The country superstar, who was dubbed “country’s hottest cowboy” by PEOPLE, has been living life in the fast lane. Between releasing a new album, traveling the country for his headlining tour and taking on a brand-new role as a coach on NBC’s The Voice, the 38-year-old has plenty keeping him busy. Still, he took a moment to slow down and answer some of the questions fans are dying to know.

Being named one of PEOPLE’s Sexiest Men Alive is an honor Green clearly plans to enjoy. In fact, he joked that “nobody can ever take this away from me!”

During the interview, the “My Way” singer shared what his ideal date night looks like, and it turns out he has a soft spot for a classic movie night.

“I’m a big movie guy. If I could find a drive-in, wouldn’t that be cool? I’m sure they still have them. Maybe a steak somewhere and a drive-in to watch an old movie,” Green told PEOPLE.

Growing up with two sisters also means Green is no stranger to romantic comedies. He admitted that he can certainly “handle” the genre and even named a few favorites.

“I like all the Matthew McConaughey, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days kind of stuff. The Wedding Planner, The Wedding Date, My Best Friend’s Wedding, all that. I have two sisters, so I’ve seen them all.”

When it comes to romance, Green has a few memorable gestures up his sleeve. He recalled one Valentine’s Day when he went all out to surprise someone with a special evening at his farm, even having to sneak away throughout the day to get everything ready.

“I remember around one Valentine’s Day, I bought one of those real old army-looking tents, the white canvas tents, and there’s this real pretty spot at my farm up above the lake. And I set it up and had little string lights in there and had a whole little campfire, but I had to do it while the girl was there. So I was constantly like, ‘Let me go check on the animals,’ and I’d run up there and put one pole up. And so it was a little surprise thing. I thought that was pretty romantic.”

Though he admits, “I don’t know how she felt about it.”

While Green is enjoying this busy season of life, he hasn’t ruled out settling down and having a family someday. For now, though, his demanding schedule makes that difficult. He shared that spending time with his nephew is one way he stays connected to family and gets a glimpse of the life he hopes to have one day.

“Yeah, I mean, if I like my son near as much as I like my nephew Joe, I think we’ll get along great. But I haven’t seen Carl, my dog, in a month. I struggle to think there’s a girl that’s… I can barely make this lifestyle work,” he explained. “I think that’s probably a battle for anybody that’s in a demanding position … just a career where you’re on the road 200-plus days a year. I was busy before I started filming The Voice. Now I’m in L.A. every day.”

He continued, “So my lifestyle has just got to change a little bit. I think that what gets me by now, without having those things that I’m hoping for, is I get to FaceTime my nephew and see what he’s doing and watch him play sports and catch up with my family. We’re all still really close. They make it bearable in a pretty hectic lifestyle right now.”
