Scotty McCreery’s first taste of stardom came at just 17 years old when he was named the winner of American Idol’s 10th Season. Since then, the superstar has experienced a lot of ups and downs and learned plenty of valuable lessons that have gotten him to a point where he feels the most stable, both in his personal life and his career.

The 30-year-old took a moment to reflect on the past 13 years of his career during the recent celebration of his sixth No. 1 hit for “Cab In A Solo,” which appears on his latest album, Rise & Fall

“It took a lot for me to get to this place. I think number one, I started so young, as we all know, living life. I remember people would be like, ‘What’s this kid going to sing about?’ And that used to tick me off, but now I’m like, what was I singing about back then? I hadn’t lived any life,” McCreery told Country Now and other outlets during the celebration held at BMI’s Nashville headquarters.

He went on to say that his days of just trying to figure things out weren’t that long ago. The North Carolina native can still easily recall the beginning of his career when he hadn’t earned any No. 1 hits yet and while he had songs he believed in, he didn’t know if they would ever amount to anything. Then, everything started to fall into place in 2017. This was the year he scored his first No. 1 song with “Five More Minutes” and shortly after, signed a new record deal with Triple Tigers Records.

“Ever since ‘Five More Minutes,’ the road we’ve been on, it feels good. It feels very fulfilling,” he added.

Looking back on all he has achieved, McCreery also recognizes that his longtime fans have played a crucial role in his journey to success. Having their support has given him the confidence to continue building a career that puts his authenticity at the forefront of his music and honors his deep love for the traditional country sound.

“My fans have stuck by my side since before number ones, and it’s just grown since then. So I got a lot of people to thank. It takes a village to get to this point,” he acknowledged. “I think more than ever at this point in my career, at 30 years old, I’m thankful and I’m grateful, as opposed to looking around at other artists that might be playing bigger venues or have songs that hit number one quicker. I’m like, man, if somebody would’ve told me I’d be doing this at 30, I would shake their hand immediately and I’d be so thrilled. So mentally and career-wise, I’m at a really great spot.”

In addition to his thriving music career, Scotty McCreery is also enjoying learning to navigate his personal life as a husband and new dad to his son Avery, who he has enjoyed having him on the road throughout the summer.

Starting tonight, the “Fall Of Summer” singer will take the stage for three shows across Oklahoma before heading to Davenport, IA on Sunday, August 4.
