Thomas Rhett’s ‘Center Point Road’ Is Filled With Friends, Nostalgia

Country music superstar Thomas Rhett just dropped his fourth studio album, Center Point Road, via Big Machine’s Valory Music Co.

The autobiographical project, which pays homage to the Tennessee street where he grew up, includes lead single, “Look What God Gave Her,” and other previously-released cuts such as the title track featuring Kelsea Ballerini, “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time” featuring Little Big Town, “Beer Can’t Fix” featuring Jon Pardi, “That Old Truck” and “Remember You Young.”

Rhett, who co-wrote and co-produced each of the 16 tracks on the record, was excited to collaborate with other artists, as he’s a big fan of having his buddies appear on his work.

“If you’re going to have somebody guest on your album you should know them, first of all. You should have a good relationship with them,” Rhett explains. “I feel like I got to take some really best friends in country music and have them be a part of this record and if I could have a friend on every single song I would probably do it just because I think making music with your friends is so much more fun than doing it by yourself.”

Rhett had over 100 songs prepared for Center Point Road, but narrowed down to 16 with the help of his team. Much like the reflective lead single, many of the tunes that made the final cut focus on the 2019 ACM Male Artist of the Year’s past and childhood memories. The singer admitted that he didn’t plan on using the title track for the name of his record, but Center Point Road stuck due to the nostalgic message and theme of the project as a whole.

“When we were writing ‘Center Point Road’ I didn’t think it was going to be the name of the album but I just wanted to write a song about it,” he said. “As we started closing the record out it just seemed like it represented so much of the content on this record – the nostalgia of it, the looking back of it. And so much of that road, in a crazy way, shaped who I am today and it made a lot of sense to name our fourth record ‘Center Point Road.’”

Center Point Road follows 2017’s Life Changes, 2015’s Tangled Up and 2013’s It Goes Like This. Fans can catch Rhett on the road on his Very Hot Summer Tour, which runs through October.
