Thomas Rhett is taking an indefinite break from Instagram.
The superstar took to the stories section of the social media platform on Tuesday evening (Dec. 15) to share that he will be stepping away from Instagram for the time being. He cited “too much negativity” as the reason for his departure and wished fans a Merry Christmas.
Rhett’s Instagram hiatus comes after the “What’s Your Country Song” singer and his wife returned from a trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with several friends. Thomas and Lauren documented their Cabo adventures with separate Instagram posts including highlights from their trip.
“Thanks to a very kind friend, we got to go to Cabo, meet my new bestie (the goofiest sea lion named Poncho), eat fresh ahi tuna that was just caught and watch beautiful sunsets with sweet friends,” Lauren captioned her post.
While some fans were quick to compliment the picturesque scenes, others pointed out the lack of COVID-19 protocols and the fact that they traveled during a pandemic.
“Must be nice to vacay during a pandemic without a care in the world,” one follower commented, while another wrote, “So tired of seeing this kind of idiotic behavior being posted on social media with zero excuses. We are in the middle of a pandemic!”

The ACM Entertainer of the Year also received a number of negative comments on his Cabo post, with followers questioning the trip. “I guess Covid only affects poor people’s vacations,” someone wrote.
All of the comments weren’t negative, however, as many fans complimented Rhett’s fish and shared how much they adore Thomas and Lauren together.

Prior to their Cabo trip, Thomas and Lauren documented their family outing to a Christmas tree lot with an adorable family photo featuring the couple and their three daughters: Willa Gray, Ada James and Lennon Love. They also made headlines when they hosted the CMA Country Christmas special on ABC.
