Toby Keith is set to release, Peso In My Pocket, his first new album since 2015, on October 15, 2021.
Co-produced by Kenny Greenberg and Keith, the album contains songwriting credits from The Warren Brothers, Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris, Jesse Jo Dillon, Brett Tyler and Sammy Hagar. Keb Mo is featured on a cover of “Old Me Better” and Mike Hosty joins Keith for “Oklahoma Breakdown,” the first track on the album. The project also contains a tribute from Keith to the late John Prine on the Prine-John Mellencamp co-write “Take A Look At My Heart.”
Keith has already gained recognition for his upcoming work with the greatest Billboard Country Airplay chart debut of his career thus far with his single “Old School.” Co-written by Ryan Hurd, Maren Morris and Brett Tyler, the song caught the Oklahoma native’s attention immediately.
“When I first heard the demo, it reminded me of Steve Miller,” Keith recalls. “But it had a little bit of a rap to it – not unlike the can of worms I opened years ago with ‘I Wanna Talk About Me.’ Then it’s got the coolest melodic waterfall and I was like, ‘Yeah, I gotta cut this.’”

The events of 2020 gave Keith the final push to complete his new album, as he stayed in his home in Mexico during the first months of quarantine where he spent much of his time writing.
“My whole musical career, I haven’t been off the road this long,” Keith explained, referring to 2020 as, “a reset button I never would have hit.”
“It was like being on the moon,” he shared. “A lot of my friends down there were afraid they wouldn’t be let back in the U.S., so they all went home. I wasn’t on the road and nobody could go anywhere, so I thought, ‘You’ve written a long list of songs by yourself, dumbass. Get up and get busy!’ I went through the ideas I keep on my phone and thought, ‘Shit, I need to write these.’”
Despite the time off from releasing new music, the 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee has stayed extremely busy. Earlier this year, the singer received the National Medal of Arts and raised $1.4 million through his OK Kids Korral, which aims to provide aid for sick children and their families in Oklahoma.
Keith has returned to his Country Comes To Town Tour and has a lot of big plans for the upcoming months, as he will be receiving the Academy of Country Music’s Merle Haggard Spirit Award in August and is set to be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame this November.
